THE WALK HOME

in #hive-1707982 days ago

That afternoon, my girlfriend and I were both trekking in the hot sun. My girlfriend kept talking about when we would make money and get our own car. I knew it was the hot sun that was beating down on her head that made her start wishing for a car.

That was how I became a motivational speaker who kept encouraging her that God would make a way.

While trekking, we started pointing at cars and arguing about their prices. I was seriously taking the argument because we were already halfway home, and my girlfriend was no longer complaining about the distance and sun again. Besides, I was the one who made her go out with me against her will and seeing that this discussion/argument kept her off from complaining, I was bent on keeping it that we until we got home.

At a point, I stopped by at a kiosk to buy us water, while my she continued walking. Slowly.

I had not even collected change from this man when I saw this clean Honda 2022 model drove and pulled up in front of her.

It was a man.

I don't know what he was talking about, so I left my change and ran to her side and held her hands

When the man saw me, he smiled.

"Your boyfriend?"

My girlfriend nodded.

He told us to enter the car so he could drop us off.

I turned to my girlfriend

I wanted to turn it down.

But when I looked at her face, I knew she would do anything to get out of the hot sun. So I gave her the nod and opened the back door for her. The man told me to sit at the back also because he wanted to pick his daughter up from school.

That was how my girlfriend and I entered the back of this man's car with sachet water in our hands.

The car was beautiful.
A.C. was turned on.

Immediately we sat down the sweat on our faces disappeared.

My girlfriend tapped me and whispered into my ears.

"The Lord is good."

I nodded and smiled.

Then she tapped me again.

"Money is good."

I muttered an inaudible yes.

The car did not even drive for five minutes, and we were already close to our house. The man turned on the TV in the car and was playing Zee world.

My girlfriend saw the continuation of the movie she was watching yesterday when Nepa took light and immediately pinched me. I was about to tell the man we were close, but my girlfriend covered my mouth and whispered.

"Please, let us enjoy this car small. Please. We don't know when we would enter this kind of car again."

I wanted to disagree with her. But the car was too sweet. We were having the time of our lives, and I was also enjoying the smooth ride and didn't want to complain. So I kept quiet and allowed the man to drive past our house.

This man drove and picked his daughter from school. He kept asking where our house was. And any time he asked, we kept telling him to go front.

This was how he drove to a gate and told us he had reached his own house.

My girlfriend and I shouted, "Eh?"

"I don't know where you people stay. I have driven around Enugu today. And this is my house."

To avoid embarrassment, I told him we were neighbors and we were just staying next street, which was trekkable. We thanked the man and came down from the sweet car.

For long minutes after, my girlfriend and I took the long walk back home. We found it very difficult to locate the road to our house cause we weren't familiar with that part of town.

Thirty minutes after walking in silence, I muttered angrily.

"Devil work"

My girlfriend replied.

"Even if the devil uses me, will you allow the devil to use you too?"

Women! Fear women!

I was just laughing while reading this because what the crazy world did you sit in the car for and you went to another location? I can relate, though. There was a day I was going home during my service year
I was in my khaki, and a man pulled over and drove me home. I did not even know when I got to my gate because it was so comfortable.
I love the direction of the write-up. It was catchy, and I love every aspect of it.
