Good evening, gentlemen, I want to do a survey among hive users to decide which band has the best riff in one of their songs.

I'm going to do two survey posts, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in those posts I'll write 10 band names and from that band I'll put a song that contains a riff at the beginning of a song.

In order to enter the survey and be able to vote, I'm going to set some rules and how the voting will be done.

What are the rules for entering the survey?

  • There are no rules, just leave a comment

Rules for voting

  • You can only vote for one song per post: (1 vote on Tuesday and another on Thursday)
  • Tuesday's vote cannot be the same as Thursday's

List of candidates for the best band with the best riff

  1. Position Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) 2 votes
  2. Position
    • Eric Clapton (Cream, Derek and the Dominos)
    • Iommi (Black Sabbath)
    • Santana
    • Chuck Berry

Right now the one who is winning is Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) I remind you that you can vote for those who are already nominated and you can repeat the nomination.

These are today's 10 bands

21-. Dimebag Darrell (Pantera)

22-. Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society)

23-. The Cranberries (Zombie)

I think the song "Zombie" is an anthem in rock music, this song came out in 1994 as part of the album "No Need to Argue", automatically the song was a resounding success all over the world. But the group disappeared after the death of the vocalist and great person Dolores O'Riordan in 2018.

24-. Joe Perry (Aerosmith)

Joe Perry is one of the founders of the band Aerosmith. He is known for his gruff guitar playing and is the king of the riff (or so they say). He has had several problems with drugs and because of this he is the one to blame for the temporary breakup of Aerosmith in the late 70s.

To this day, Perry continues to play with Aerosmith and in side projects, staying active in the music scene. He is also known for his passion for motorcycles and has launched his own line of hot sauces called Joe Perry's Rock Your World Hot Sauces.

25-. Steve Vai

26-. Yngwie Malmsteen

Considered the creator of the "shred" style of guitar but also neoclassical metal. What stands out most about Yngwie Malmsteen is how fast he plays the guitar. The album Rising Force (1984) faithfully reflects the neoclassical metal style.

27-. Shaft (Isaac Hayes)

What a great song this is that provided the soundtrack to the movie.

Billboard magazine says:

Isaac Hayes was an influential American musician, songwriter, singer, and actor. One of his most recognized works was the creation of the soundtrack for the film "Shaft" in 1971, for which he won an Academy Award for the title song, "Theme from Shaft." This theme catapulted him to worldwide fame, and its success marked a new era in soul music, contributing to the creation of the subgenre known as blaxploitation.

Before that, Hayes was already a leading figure at the record label Stax Records, where he worked as a songwriter and producer. Together with his partner David Porter, he was responsible for writing hits for artists such as Sam & Dave, including classics such as "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I'm Comin'."

So to sum it all up, they say he's a genius and that everything he touches he turns into a fucking work of art.

28-. John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

29-. I Love Rock 'N Roll (Joan Jett & the Blackhearts)

"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is by the British glam rock trio The Arrows, not a Jets composition. Fronted by Alan Merrill, they were well known in the UK and had some success and a TV show there, but were completely unknown in the States. This is one of the cases where this version outdid the original and was even more successful than The Runaways.

30-. Spirit In The Sky ( Norman Greenbaum )

Well, here are the top 10 songs, so leave a comment saying which one you choose and on Tuesday I will publish the ranking by vote. Next Tuesday I will publish another 10 songs from other groups.

Whoever guesses who will be number 1 will win a beehive as a gift, so participate.

So tomorrow more and better, gentlemen.

Sort:

What a great selection of bands, I didn't know there were such good ones. I'll stick with I Love Rock 'N Roll (Joan Jett & the Blackhearts) which are amazing.

Well today I choose Spirit In The Sky (Norman Greenbaum)
