The Room, guys, is one of those movies that are called "bad to the point of being a masterpiece" and that's not a joke, meaning if you hear about it for the first time, you'll feel like it's a normal drama about betrayal, friendship and love, but the truth is it's something else entirely.
The story
The story is about the character Johnny, played by Tommy Wiseau, who is a very kind person and lives with his fiancée Lisa, who suddenly decides to betray him with his best friend Mark without any introduction or clear reasons, and this is the first thing that makes you laugh because there's no logic in what's happening at all.
The movie is full of situations and dialogues that are not connected at all, you feel like the writer wrote them and finished them without reviewing them, like the phrase "Oh hi Mark" that became a global icon because of its strange way, and there are many scenes full of exaggerated drama in a way that makes you laugh instead of being affected.
But what really distinguishes the movie is Tommy Wiseau's performance himself, this man thought he made a great movie, and this is something that must be appreciated, his performance is full of emotion but in a comedic way Amazing, I mean you feel that he understands acting in a completely different way than the whole world.
The decorations, music and directing are also funny in their own way, I mean the romantic scenes feel like they were made with a zero budget and the music makes you feel like you're watching a cheap 90s series.
Finally
The Room is not a bad movie in the true sense of the word, but it's a unique experience that you won't find anywhere else. It's an unexpectedly enjoyable movie that makes you laugh at things you shouldn't have laughed at, and that's what makes it first-class excellent. If you're looking for a strange and enjoyable movie at the same time, this is what will entertain you.
