Is Hive's Reputation System Becoming Worth Something?

in #hive-1679223 years ago

We all see the little numbers next to people's name. What is that number and what does it tell us?

For those who are unaware, that is Hive's Reputation System. It was something that was designed from the earliest days of the blockchain. The idea was to quantify the "value" that one provides to the ecosystem. Obviously the greater the contribution, the higher the score.

That was the idea in theory anyway.

Ultimately, it ended up being worthless. Due to things that were present for a long period of time, most ignore the reputation system altogether.

This begs the question, is it starting to gain some value?

Hive Score

How the system works is fairly simple. One's score is based upon the number of weighed value of the upvotes received. This means there are a couple ways to get a higher ranking.

The first is to get a lot more upvotes. This will help to feed into positive movement. The second factor is to get some upvotes from those with heaving voting weight. In other words, getting upvotes from those with stake also factors into the score.

Where we had a challenge is, for many years, bid bots were available. This was hitting up people's posts with some heavy votes. Of course, they were self purchased so what did they really tell? At the same time, people were posting out of one account and "self" upvoting out of another account with a lot of stake. This, too, made the system pretty useless.

Before getting into some of the changes, we should mentioned how the process works.

When new, one starts with a score of 25. Each level is requires twice as much as the previous one.

Therefore, when going from 26 to 27, it takes twice the voting stake as going from 25 to 26. The same is true throughout. To go from 71 to 72 is twice the jump as it is from 70 to 71.

It is why the process slows as one get's higher in the rankings.

We also have no concrete levels which are badged or focused upon. Here is where we each can decide what is of use to us.

Reputation Showing Commitment

Bidbots are no longer a part of the Hive ecosystem. With one of the previous forks, they basically were eliminated. So that means the largest contributor to the early scores is gone.

What this could mean is the reputation score now is a better indicator of what one is truly doing. Those who joined of late, especially post-Hive hard fork, did not operate under that premise. Thus, could we take it to mean their scores are more telling?

Obviously the reputation score is an aggregate. It just keep growing over time as one is active. With each upvote, the score moves a bit higher.

Here we see how time certainly is a factor. That makes sense since one who is involved in the ecosystem for a longer period of time should have a higher score than someone new.

So, is this becoming useful?

Here again, a bit of personalization is required. We all can determine what level is telling to us.

Of late, it is easy to notice a lot more people with a reputation score of 70 or greater. To me, this is a level where one is making a great deal of progress. That is an area where enough time is required along with contribution. It is not an easy level to achieve yet is not so onerous one is in rarified air.

In other words, one or two heavily rewarded posts will not get one there. It requires a lot of activity along with engagement to achieve.

Does that mean those below that level are not worthy contributors? Of course not. This metric was designed to apply to content creators. Those who do not produce a lot of content yet are active in other ways would not be reflected in this score. The same is true for those curating, another vital characteristic of Hive. That does not factor into the reputation.

Therefore, we can see some flaws in the system. That said, it does seem like, since the end of the bidbots, it is at least a worthy of something.

Trust On Hive

What we are trying to determine is who are the trustworthy people on Hive. This is a difficult situation to approach. There is no easy way to do this.

For the present, with Hive being so small, relatively speaking, we are now looking at a personal knowledge situation. It is easy for most of us to point out the one's who are making an impact. We can determine this by looking at the consistent content producers, the top developers, those involved in different projects, or the ones manually curating.

Having the communities helps since they become a microcosm of the whole. Naturally, reputation only applies to the HP behind each vote, so it is not going to be community-specific. Nevertheless, we can look at the different communities and it does not take long to see who the dedicated people are.

Through this, we figure who we are going to assign trust. Again, this is a highly personal decision. No reputation score is going to help us out here.

Getting back to the Hive Reputation System, what can we garner from that? What happens if we come across someone who has a score of 71? What does that tell us?

As an absolute number, not much. After all, the individual might not have been active over the past few years and that score was most due to bidbots. If, however, the individual is active of late, it means the person is likely dedicated to Hive and engaging through the creation of content and/or commenting. Here we can give the person a degree of trust.

It is in this instance that we can see some worth to the Hive Reputation System. This is now becoming a metric that is a starting point. We are not dealing with something that is highly fine tuned so complete trust or as a basis for comparison, it probably provides little.

However, it is not a complete waste anymore like it use to be. Some of the early accounts might not be telling us much yet for anything in the last couple years, it does provide a good range.

So what are your thoughts? What is a good level to start paying attention to reputation score? Is it a useful metric for those people who joined in the last couple years, post the bidbot era?

What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comment below.

I have no idea but I did pay attention to it when I first started on Hive. However I stopped paying attention to it afterwards because I didn't really think it really mattered. When you don't know anyone, it's useful but after you get to know people, its not as useful.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

People look at that early in their Hive careers and then forget about it when they realize it doesnt mean a ton.

However, perhaps there is some legitimacy being breathed into it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

To me I see it as something that is very important and base on my understanding it add the to the level hive power an individual owns,so I sincerely thinking it's of more Importance too

I think it is gaining in relevance. As stated much of the earlier ones dont tell much but a lot of the newer people working up the scale, it does show what is being achieved.

Love this post. As I put 930 straight days of posting now. My rep is over 73. And for me that helps show my worth to others.

That is what it takes. To get upvotes have to put content on the screen. Without that, it cant happen.

yeah it's really hard to level up after 50 to 60 but now I'm at 62 it will take some time to went up

Yes it does. It gets longer between each interval. That is what is interesting about it.

so close to 72 lol so so close yet so far

You should overtake me in a week or two :)

Thanks for explaining the distinction between the use of reputation then and now.

I'm trying to become more active in the community but i just need some more motivation to push out posts. Been on hive 3 years but haven't made it to 70 yet. I'll get there one day.

Thank you so much about this post because I don't even know what the reputation mean in hive blockchain.i can tell people what is mean now.

It will be cool if that will add some monetary value. For example more APR to hive power held.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yes and there are a lot more people I noticed that we are seeing more people with 70 scores.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yes very true I know I’m only a little bit away! I always wondered how it was calculated I get the incoming vote weight now which makes way more sense.

Vote weight and number.

Just stay consistent and engage and you will get there.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That’s the plan my friend. This ecosystem is so much better when you make some actual connections and engage with other. Money will follow but those coming in just for gains it shows and is a bit cringe.

Yes I agree. We have a lot to receive if we give. Engaging with each other is a way to ensure that one's standing within the ecosystem grows.

I know just interacting with you and @bozz have made this place way more enjoyable.

I think @blocktrades is planning to update it this year some time. But he hasn't talked about it for a long time so not sure if it is still being worked on

I believe he would like to have a more "web of trust" algorithm in play, rather than this far too simple and gamed metric. For me, it is meaningless as an indicator other than my own, as I know what it has taken to get this far. But, the number doesn't really matter...

This is something that is close to his heart. He is likely mulling something in his mind. I am not sure he had a lot of time to work on it. Seems like he is a bit busy these days.

I liked the content of the post, I joined hive last year, and I didn't know much about this scoring system, especially the goal to climb to double the previous difficulty. !PIZZA

I like the fact that the reputation score gives a sense of achievement, but it's far from perfect.
I liked the UA project by @scipio a few years ago. It was using an Algo similar to Google PageRank, based on who was following whom. The problem was that you need to choose how to initialize the reputation. They chose to do it by giving a strongest initial wheight to top witnesses and as a result, the reputation was quite biased toward witnesses.
Conclusion : it's really hard to make a good and fair reputation system ^^

Reputation is really subjective and qualitative. But I must confess I like seeing a 60+ rating next to my id.

That is good. And now you are on the path to getting the 70+ rep next to your name.

While I find the reputation scores interesting, I am here for content. I really enjoy the communities available like NeedleWorkMonday. For me as someone who enjoys great content and wanting to provide something in kind, I wish there was a way to maybe have tabs on our profile page. I have some topics that I might want to write several essays on but don't have a community to post it in and would like the topic to all be in one place. Just a thought.

I will say it is nice that the voting bots are no longer an option. I look forward to seeing what happens on this platform over time. It seems like there are people who care and that means a lot to me.

No wonder its taking me forever to get to 70… and then, assuming constant metrics, it will take forever x 2 to get to 71 lol hopefully I attract more people to my posts. Will probably speed up once I have more time to engage with others and read more posts of theirs

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

when I started in the blockhain I come from steemit, I have two and a half years in community I used to follow those who had high reputation, by that time 70 I think was the highest.

Their reputation level indicated me that they were old and had experience in the ecosystem, today is very common to see this level of reputation between 70 and 75, but it always gives joy to go up.

I recently found out that it can also be lowered, a person told me that in the old chain they lowered her reputation by 6 points, she did not know how to place the source of the images and that mistake cost her several points. I was surprised, I didn't know that could happen. @taskmaster4450

Downvotes will lower the reputation score. It works in reverse too. That is why many of the spammers, they can go negative with their reputation score.

Reputation score has always been a metric that interests me and I still tend to look at a user's reputation if am visiting or seeing a user for the first time.

It will be less justifying to measure one's reputation by the upvotes alone. The personal check like you mention is a good way to determine ones that are trustworthy and committed to Hive.

You don't show up everyday and exhibit consistent interaction with the chain if you careless about Hive.

Interesting topic!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That is true.

It is handy from a quick scan perspective. We can see those who are dedicated for the most part.

There are a number of people I come across that I never heard of and look and bam, they have a 75 or 77 rep score. That tells me they are strong contributors.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

While far from perfect, I'd be inclined to agree that the reputation system definitely means more than it used to.

I do find it useful from time to time, and the "personalization" I add is (for example) when I come across someone with let's say a "65" I'll click on their profile page and see how that relates to their current activity level. So the reputation number is useful as an "invitation" to have a closer look, particularly when I see someone with a very high number getting very low rewards or vice-versa. It makes me curious to examine: Why that seeming discrepancy... there's usually a "story" there.

Ultimately, the rep scores are just a metric. I have to ask myself whether any piece of content is original and worthy... and stands alone, in adding value.

=^..^=

It is a starting point, that is all. Yes there is a level that we all look at. What you say about 65 makes sense. It is the level you start to look.

Sorry, it's hivebuzz 😅 Yeah, 70 and to the moon!

A lot more could be done with the reputation system for sure. Would be nice to have some type of verification of official accounts and such.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Personally replace the reputation with a badge, different depending on the number of posts published for example, maybe an NFT?

Well Hivebuzz.me does provide the badges and, you are right, that is another valid way to see what one is doing.

So there is the pieces in place. That said, that is developed by @arcange and not a part of Hive as the core. It is a gamification tool plus also is very good at telling us what people are doing.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

@taskmaster4450 Thank you so much for explaining this so eloquently. When I 1st started on #Ecency, just over two months ago, I thought that number was the person's age🙈🙈 my partner @zakludick did correct me, but thanks to this article, I have a much better understanding now🙏

A lot to know about Hive and this is not something discussed much because, as stated in the article, for years it was a pretty useless indicator.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

well, it seems to mean something now, which is cool because I can see mine growing with every post I put out. This article was actually pretty inspirational. Thanks for that! Nice to know that reputation does mean something now and it's worth improving my rating.

It is just another metric to help one focus. I am glad you noticed yours growing with each post. That is good that you are focusing upon it.

That is key. Hive is about growing through compounding. Simply remain active, engage, and be consistent and you will see the numbers grow....all of them.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

For me the reputation doesn't make that much sense, instead I there should be something which should replace it to show how much I have contributed to the Hive ecosystem.

Based upon what?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It can be anything like how active I am on Hive ecosystem in the years I am on the chain, how much I do engagement and some other factors too...

There could be other actors in there although we do have the badging system that also tells a bit story about each person.

It is actually more valuable than the reputation score when we think about it.

Hivebuzz.me is very helpful in assessing what one is doing.

I believe everyone on Hive, that's here trust the Hive system because if you didn't trust Hive you will not be here

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I believe the system have change totally because I believe newbies starting with the reputation of 25 can get to 70 a year if consistently getting upvote from stronger account like you said but I know the more the increase in reputation the harder it gets but adding a badge when getting to 70 should be done because throughly they deserve it.

That is something that @arcange would have to do. However, even without that gamification, there is the number next to the name.

It is a challenge to get there but it is possible. Many are doing it. The key is to keep active.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

We love badges... don't we?

The key is to keep active.

Yes! Simple.

Yeah @arcane set up a good thing there if people use it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

As you stated in your post, it's so easy to cheat the current reputation system with circle jerking and self upvotes
That's why I have never been inclined to include anything related to reputation in Hivebuzz.

While it is sometimes an indicator, the current reputation is all but reliable.
My main reference for reputation is the Hivebuzz level (redfish, minnow, dolphin, ...) i.e. amount of HP, even if I have to admit it's not really accurate as an indicator and can be gamified too.
But I tend to consider someone with more skin in the game as more reputable too.

But I tend to consider someone with more skin in the game as more reputable too.

I agree.

That said, I do think we might be seeing a bit of value to the reputation system. It can still be gamed but then what cant? We did come a long way from the bidbot days which skewed everything.

To me, it is a starting point. Checking the account on Hivebuzz tells a great deal more about what the person is doing and how dedicated they are.

By the way, I am still working on my 100K comment badge. I think about 59K more to go.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It takes hard work to get to the Rep 77 score. Not only via posting, but also by constant engagement, commenting, replying, upvoting and everything else.
I believe that the rep score shows a person's commitment to hive.

There is a level that you are correct. The other factor takes time. A lot of the higher scores are people who are hear for years.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thank you and I also think that the Rep count can deliver the retention of members when they see their own rep counts increasing to higher levels.

Very interesting view on the current reputation system. I think a further evolution of the reputation could be to create a special filter in the front-end that shows you new content based on a specifc reputation range (e.g. >70) across communities.

That would probably be more important as soon as the number of users grows higher

yeah I noticed that it gets harder while going up the reputation and it depending on the upvotes one gets. But at the same time, I was not sure if the number of comments and engagements on the chain affects the growth.

Also back in the steem days, I noticed it was harder to grow in reputation compared to Hive. You might oppose to this because I wasn't really too active and I had not gotten the idea of the chain.

I have tended to look at the reputation as a more mature or experienced hiver. Especially after getting comments from strange people with a score of 16.

This was a wonderful illustration of how my reputation gets moving and why it's get slower for me to move to the next level.

I know just a few days ago, I kept watching my reputation at 63.88, and I kept wondering when it will hit 64. When it finally did, I didn't notice it anymore... Lol.

My next goal is to hit 70, and your article is telling me I have to double my efforts. If I understand clearly, currently at 64, to get to 70, I'll need 12 times the weight of my present activities to earn that weight of upvotes.

I'll try my best, I really will. Thanks for the insight. 💕

The move from 25 to 30 is nothing. The move from 65 to 70 is much bigger. It takes a lot more time and effort.

As long as you are engaging, you are going to see the Rep Score increase whether you pay attention or not.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This is an interesting discussion. I remember reading somewhere that a revamp to the reputation system has been in discussion for a while but still hasn't been implemented. Not sure if there's any possibility that will happen on the next Hive Fork but, either way, it could be a good metric for commitment to the blockchain, as you said.

I must admit I completely forgot about it when I found out how it was calculated but you raise a good point. I think it needs some work before it can be a reliable metric but maybe it can be a rough pointer.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am not sure if there is something in the works to revamp the reputation system. Either way, we are now at the point which it has some usefulness albeit it not huge.

It is just another feature that is seeing evolution even if it isnt changing.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This was a really deep and educative post Sir.
For me I had seen the reputation score as a score board for how well a user was doing on the blockchain. I also noticed it was easier to speed up at some points and then it takes a lot of time to cross some numbers especially in the 60s lol.

However I also use it as metric for estimating how committed someone may be on the platform.
But I have a question, Does it ever reduce, either due to inactivity or being downvoted?

Sorry if you had spoken about this in the other comments, just thought I might as well ask.

Thanks.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I personally found the reputation useless. I don't even look at the number, i'd rather dive straight into a user's profile page and see his content.

It tells a lot about the individual...

Now granted there are folk who just come on and socialise, and that's okay too...but those guys are really contributing to the community on hive and they are the unsung heroes. I was astonished to see how much great conversations are going on in this little hub.

Anyway another well done article!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

The Rep Score didnt tell us anything before. Now we are seeing it tell a bit at least.

Someone between 65-70 is putting in the effort. From there, it is the beginning of the further research.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

For the most part the score seems to show little more than the color of one's nose. The people who are good at cowtowing to whales have high reputations.

I tend to be more concerned with newbies and the large number of outsiders on the system.

The reputation has some value in that it shows spam accounts.

Although a newbie can get destroyed by a single downvote from a whale.

The best way to improve the system would be to reduce the weight of the whales in determining the value of the upvote.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

You make some interesting points. I too have long considered the score worthless, but you're right, if you see a high score now it is probably someone who really cares about this platform and believes in it enough to still be active, and of course for post-Steemit accounts it is actually working as intended.

Interesting post. !PIZZA

I do not know what the upper limits is if there is one. I would imagine it will just keep going. But can you imagine the distance between 91 and 92. It will take forever for one to move up in that range. We need to remember it keeps escalating.

I was wondering how the ranking system worked here. It seems like in just my first day with interacting I've been able to go from 25 or 35 I started out with all the way up to 49 so that went fast. I'm going to imagine it starts to slow down like crazy once I'm over 50 or so. That kind of also gives great value to an account. For example yours at 82 would be looked at as authority would it not?

I'm going to imagine it starts to slow down like crazy once I'm over 50 or so.

It slows down even step of the way. You will find it slows down after 50, then even more after 60, and so on.

For example yours at 82 would be looked at as authority would it not?

I am not sure "authority" is the proper term but I do have some knowledge. What it does state is dedication and that I consistently engage on chain.

What that means to people is up to each individual. But I would say the higher the score, the greater the likelihood they are dedicated to those ecosystem.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

If Hive grows to what we dream of it growing to, I think there will also be multiple third-party organizations assigning various types of scores to every account and/or person based on different algorithms. They could be similar to credit scores or even "social credit" scores and used for legitimate or nefarious purposes.

My jump from 25 to 51 reputation wasn't as hard as my move from 60 to 61, dawn it took a lot of time, now I know the reason why, but my most challenging reputation move was from 63 to 64

I have had some of my Hive invitees complain that they moved faster when they joined newly. So, I just tell them the higher you go, the tougher it becomes and the more you need to stay active.

But I don't like the fact that the reputation only depends on weight of upvotes. There should be some added metrics, don't you think.

I have seen people who join newly and because they already know a certain curator, their growth becomes enhanced. Equally, there are people who are just unlucky so to say, in attracting curators.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thanks for this great explanation. I stumbled over the reputation system every now and then and of course you can see people with higher and not so high reputations. I would consider myself to have a medicore reputations, but haven't been for too long on the blockchain - so there wasn't a lot of time to build up Reputation. I am still working on that.
I find it quite helpful to see the numbers, since it can be a starting point, whether that user is just a "newbie" or a "veteran". But is it good beyond the first impression and pre-indication? I am not sure. If I want to find out how someone is being active on the blockchain I look at their posts and comments. This leaves out curations, but I am not sure, if there is an easy way to check those.

I think reputations do have some value now. When I'm looking through posts that I might find interesting, I do sometimes glance at the reputation score. I'm more likely to click on a post from someone in the 70's than in 20's, but not because I think less of that person. It's a natural response. Kinda like when you look at products on amazon. You're probably gunna look at the ones with 5 stars vs. the ones with 2 stars. It's definitely interesting.

I agree with you. To me, it seems like it is natural for us. That is why we each have a level that will catch each of us.

For you, it is 70; for others it might be 65 or 60. Either way, there is a level that we each pick up on. So it is in the best interest of people to increase their Reputation Score.

Exactly. It can be seen as a sort of quality filter I guess. Not to discourage anyone from posting or anything like that. I just typically gravitate toward higher reputations because I look for a certain quality of information. Obviously I engage smaller ones as well, but not as often. Natural human response.

I like the system and the way it works on a kind of logarithmic scale.

But something which is starting to seriously dishearten me is that posts I do to LeoFianance get very few (if any) upvotes, as if they are invisible, while posts to other communities in Ecency get a decent response.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it better to focus on smaller communities and accept that it is impossible for relative newbies to get noticed in a place as busy as LeoFinance ?

I want to make a worthwhile contribution (although earning a few tokens is nice as well !) but need to know what to do to get noticed at least a little bit !

Leofinance is a smaller community compared to Hive in general but is bigger than others.

The only suggestioin I can give is to get more involved. It takes time to get some attention.

Also try posting at different times of the day. Experiment to see if you can catch different eyes.

I don't looks so much at the score as I look at what they publish. If I have someone interact with me on a post, sure I see the score, but I also go and look at their profile and what they post. If it's something that I find interesting and want to see in my feed, I follow them regardless of score. Someone new who has written 10-20 posts may have a low score but great material, and they deserve a follow.

I was just discussing the nocebo effect with Lisa Gentile in our CTP Telegram about it. You can consider the reputation score as a similar effect: people who don't use a system like you or I and who just look at a score may miss out on following and supporting some of the lower (read this as 'newer') scored folks.

That is true. It is not a metric that one should put complete in exclusively. There needs to be a lot more research. High score does not mean the person is a great content producer nor does a low one reflect upon the person's potential.

Time is certainly an element and a low score tends to mean someone is new.

I found this publication very interesting and thoughtful. I wish many people would do the translation. Many people say that it doesn't matter, I had a problem and they lowered my reputation by 6 levels, which is important to me because I can feel first hand what it is like to sit for so many hours writing and this is something that serves as a tabulator. I also think that we have a lot of potential on the platform, good writers who see that we have a high level of reputation and want to get there fast, they get anxious and there is another group that is growing like crazy. We have variety in this great hive. Thank you for your interest in informing us. The new users will surely thank you very much and those of us who have been here for more years will thank you too, now I understand how hard it is to climb in reputation. The internet factor and so many things that slow us down and we have to go to other places to write discourage us, but with this information we get strength to continue. Personally I love everything that generates confidence and this publication made me feel that we are taken into account

One question after a reputation of 82 how far we got ha,ha,ha,ha. My goodness in 16 seconds to reach all those votes is such a blessing. Congratulations @taskmaster4450

Time is a factor in all this. People are not likely going to get to the upper 70s in a year alone. That is something people have to factor into.

I'm a post hive-fork user and I still remember when I started jusy like some others I still follow, and now I see we are above 70 of reputation, and thats because we had been very active over the years (its almost 2 years for me)... For me, the reputation number is more of a sign that the user has been in hive for a long time and knows how it works, not much of a value thing.

I also know a person that got his account destroyed by a whale (more than 8 million hp, and mostly delegated) after he was mean with him in a picture, so he got a 100% downvote.

For me the reputation is not much of a value indicator because of the many variables that comes together to be reflected in that number (even today), but its still something to be proud of when we see a high number in our account.

Yeah, few days ago I made a comment on Tarazkp's blog and it astonished me to see when I looked his rep turned 83..
After a long time!! I had been witnessing for about an year and the first date, I saw 82 and it took 1 year to reach the double margin 83.
😮

Nice to see you described the issue with a post and good to speak I learnt the reason why it is too slow, when the rep is up and hard to move then.

I think,Reputation is a cycle, that continues to build the trustworthiness of a user who engage in the blockchain and the measuring/metric unit is the rep..

Glad to see your expert opinion,, 💖👍

I have been here since 2017 and I still have a fairly low reputation because I dont provide much content. Not sure if Ive ever received a significant downvote either.... Im probably too 'under the radar'. But I feel like I have contributed to the long term ecosystem in my own way, playing with new functions and generally checking in, upvoting content, voting witnesses etc.
It would be nice if there was some acknowledgement for those of us who float along amiably. I know we are not the core of what makes hive valuable, but I feel we are a trustworthy populace who have a different sort of relevance. I notice some people who come and make a lot of content will have a higher rep than me within a couple of months - which is cool because they are providing the value, but us long term civs should perhaps be recognised for our gentle commitment and durability.

I've joined Hive around 5 months ago and I've got my reputation score from 25 to 60. I do feel it becomes harder to climb in score when you reach 55-60.
One aspect for sure I'm lacking is engagement, I'm trying to get more involved with other community members and learn from them.

It keeps slowing down the higher you go. This is just a matter of keeping focus and engaging.

I left steem with a reputation of 46 for 3 years. I wasn't being rewarded enough for sharing my chess contents. I got back to hive about 5 months ago and I'm close to 68! . It goes to show how rewarding the Blockchain is for efforts.

Thanks for sharing this and also for your support. I find this very helpful and useful.

It does show how things changed from the old days.

Hive is a much different ecosystem. Plus you are showing yourself in more communities which has to help.

Although you have a point and reasoning I would still ditch reputation scores... These act too much as some sort of identities. If someone behaves bad the community will notice and take actions, you don't need to have some sort of a reputation score pointing at that.

What about spammers or scammers?

There are a lot who like to post links in the comment section and pull unknowing people in. If there is an awful rep score, it is "attention Will Robinson".
