The building of the database is going exceptional. Over the last couple days we saw incredible additions to the number of videos on Leo. This is something that we are focused upon since we are now looking to drive a lot more activity on the platform.
We are doing a lot to capture the videos and build pages. The key is to get the database on the blockchain, not in a spreadsheet on someone's computer. While we have to have "working papers", the goal is to push as much off as possible.
An example is the Billy Joel Page which has a list of his singles and albums. Each song is no longer in the spreadsheet. Instead, there is only a link to this page. Every new song by Joel that is added will go straight to this page.
Ultimately, we want the index pages to only contain the name of artists with a link to their pages. There is where people will find all the links to the individual songs (along with the albums as they are created).
Remember, the key is traffic. To do this, it is imperative that we link as much of what is created to other sources. That is the basis of LeoGlossary, something we are bringing to music.
However, there is something else that is very good about Leo.
Search Within Music On Leo
There is a reason why everyone should be using the Music on Leo tag and placing the songs in that community.
The first is so they can be found. Ultimately, we want thousands of pages with artists songs on them, many tied to a more detailed page about their history. It is a rather simple concept that takes the idea of "Wikipedia on the blockchain" to a much greater level. Naturally, the numbers are against us when it comes to that entity but we can do some things to make our database more appealing.
In my last article I mentioned the idea of using bookmarks on Leo for songs. Those with Leo Premium are able to set up folders, this categorizing their songs within the bookmarks. This is a handy feature.
However, we also have the thread posted above. Notice how it discusses the idea of 1 million threads being indexed. This is something that is very Music on Leo.
It is also why there is no concern about "losing" songs.
If something is placed in the Music on Leo community, we can find it.
Music On Leo Search
Let us look at how this works.
Go to the community page:
Type in "Music on Leo".
Go to the threads section on the right hand side of the headers:
When in the threads, go to the search bar and enter what you are looking for. Here I typed in "Billy Idol".
Up come some results for songs that are close to Billy Idol.
Obviously, the search isn't perfect at this moment but it will pull up threads from inside the community. This really helps people to isolate what they are looking for.
Submitting Content To Music On Leo
We have a lot of songs being submitted on Leo in general. A fair portion are ending up in the Music on Leo community. We all have dealt with some issues regarding nodes and things not showing up. Nevertheless, we move ahead in spite of this.
Artist pages is a major focus on the music side of LeoGlossary. For now, we are looking to keep adding to the number. There were 12 set up today, encompassing around 140 songs. This is going to be a daily event.
There is something that we can do for anyone who is willing to focus upon an artist. It is something that was happened upon yet, when you do things, ideas simply emerge.
Look at this Billy Joel thread:
Notice at the bottom it says "Billy Joel - Singles Page". Here is where we can do a couple things.
The first is that, once the page is set up, we can visit the songs and place the link to the artist page. This will provide another link for the page to help keep things from getting lost.
Another approach is to set up the page beforehand. What this would entail is messaging me about the desire to do this. The page can be set up, providing the link to place on each thread. If one is going to put up a dozen songs for an artist, this could be a great way to tie them all together. If those songs arent in the index, we will add them all to the page.
Again, with the focus upon page views, this is another simple way where someone might click on the link, get back to the page, and find 20 songs by Billy Joel that can be played on Leo.
As a side note, there is also a listing of his albums, one which is already in our database. Hence, this link could get them to the albums also.
We Are Just Getting Started
This is a project that, realistically, is about a week old. At least if we take this from the community perspective, it is under 7 days.
For something that is being rolled out, the response is incredible. The goal is to keep adding, building, and tying things together. It might seem like a pain in the rear in the moment but, over time, it all adds up.
We all stand to benefit the more ways we provide to find what we are looking for. This place was infected with the disease of once something was place on chain, it was gone forever. While the data was there, nobody could find it.
Music on Leo is seeking to change this. We know people visit songs repeatedly. Why should we give the traffic to YouTube when we can simply use Leo as a front end and generate the activity on our platform.
Also, let us not forget that engagement is still key. If you listen to a song, leave a comment. This could stimulate some conversation and, who knows, maybe someone comes by with a healthy upvote.
We are all looking at filling the same trough. There are many reasons to increase activity. We are seeing systems put in place for that.
It is up to us to get as active as possible. If nothing else, click on the songs you like and listen to them from the Leo UI.
