The Age of Automation

Factories. The Internet. Ordering. Bill pay.

We are in the age of automation. Over the past 20 years, things such as automated bill paying became commonplace. One can have all the bills paid automatically through one's bank account.

This is just one simple example of how things changed. It is, however, only the tip of the iceberg. We are about to see a great deal more automation as we go forward.

When it comes to the Internet, we are looking at an agentic world. AI agents are going to take over to the point where most of the transactions online are done by computers.

Then we have the physical world. Here is where robots start the major shift. Whether it is autonomous cars, robotic vacuum cleaners, or humanoid bots, we are going to see a massive shift in labor.

The Age of Automation

Many view this as a negative. There is a belief system that says jobs need to be done by humans for society to function. This was true in the past but is it today?

The flipside of this is the idea that we can solve enormous problems. Consider the elderly. It is expensive to get older. Round the clock care, in the United States, can run a couple hundred thousand dollars per year. How many people can realistically afford that?

What happens if we can automate elderly care, or at least large portions of it?

If the projected price for a humanoid robot hits $30K-$50K, consider this one field. For a fraction of the annual cost of human care, we could see large numbers of people receiving the care they need.

This is just one example.

Probably the most obvious field is manufacturing. How much could be produced if we have robots operating the plants, 24/7? The economic output would skyrocket.

Automation is a benefit to humanity. This is something that people need to come to grasp with.

Technology Advances Society

Many talk about the "good ole days". Unfortunately, this is a lot of romanticizing times that weren't that great. The reason behind this is people take for granted what is available today.

There was a time when we had to pay for each long distance call we made. Compare that to today where we communicate people throughout the world for basically nothing.

Automation is going to advance society. We already saw this when it comes to manufacturing.

In the automotive industry, the number of defects on a new vehicle are greatly reduced compared to when humans were building it completely.

Then we have the production. Since robotics were implemented we saw the number of automobiles manufactured skyrocket. We also see a reduced cost of building compared to humans doing it.

There is little doubt the computer, smartphones, software, and a host of other innovations have helped humanity.

We are going to see the same for both AI and robotics. Automation is scary because it is new but it is something that occurred since the industrial revolution. We are likely looking at massive job disruption, due to the pace of the advancement. This is something that society is not prepared for.

That said, we will see a massive expansion of economic output. It is the one move that will combat the enormous debt loads that governments acquired.
