Wednesday Walk St Marys Cemetery Dartmouth

This post if for Wednesday walk challenge And Make me Smile Collaboration challenge, initially our collaboration was once a month but due to the popularity of it we have decided to make the collab a weekly thing :)

For this weeks walk I am sharing a few shots of a walk through St Mary's Cemetery in Dartmouth MA.
As most of you who follow me know my habit used to be to go out early for sunrise walks, and to be honest I wqill still do that often, but I have decided to mix in some walks an hour or two after sunrise to visit some places better viewed and photographed with some light.
And St Mary's is the first of these not so early in the morning walks, Starting with this shot of the fence surrounding the cemetery and the name on the big rock

Its a beautifully maintained cemetery

I noticed looking at the headstones most of the Cemetery seems to be for Irish Descendants, but I will share some images of headstones and such in other posts, for this one I will focus on the walking paths, well roads in the cemetery

St. Mary Cemetery was consecrated as sacred space in 1845 and has since been serving the Catholic Community

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.

This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.

Try and get a few shots not just one

Add a bit of a write up about where you walked

Just one Wednesday Walk tagged post a week

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .

Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.

Since 1845 and the cemetery is still looking neat and organized. I love the trees around it and it makes the road beautiful. Amazing shots from you.

Most welcome for the hive, I have friends who never walk near cemeteries, I even have one friend who will never visit our house as were to close to a cemetery in his mind LOL

I don't go to the extremes of not wanting to visit a house because it is near a cemetery, hehe. But I have always found it strange to visit cemeteries as a tourist attraction when visiting a place, for example.

But I must admit that the pictures you took were worth the visit. :)

Yeah I find that a bit weird, that he wont visit our place but each to their own

I must say when travelling I dont think I ever visited cemeteries while exploring a city, but here I like checking out all of the city

Yep, it's a bit weird.

I don't visit them when I travel either, at least I try not to. But I remember the first time I went to Paris with some friends and they were all crazy about going to visit the Père Lachaise Cemetery. They went, I stayed at a cafe nearby, hehe.

well that cemetery is one so many visit so many famous people buried there, the only ones I can remember of hand are Chopim, and why my wife visited it years ago before she met me, to see the grave of Jim Morrison

that said I never visited it when I was there

Indeed, is a very well-maintained cemetery. I always find calmness at cemetery on contrary to some who feel scared due to watch too much movies. 😁

The environment of the cemetery is very clean, so I who see it are not so haunted, but I don't know the atmosphere at night there :-D

Very nice shots! I was just talking to someone the other day and they mentioned how quickly the trees seemed to fill in this year. It was like one day they were sort of full and then boom the next day they were in full on summer mode!

I find cemeteries fascinating as I always wonder what kind of lives the people buried there led, and if they were young, what happened. It's kind of strange but I used to find it peaceful walking through them. Our cemeteries that are maintained by the municipalities are in a shocking state, it's really sad!
The St Mary's cemetery looks well-kept and gracious, and that is how it should be, not so!

It's a nice and clean cemetery, many trees and much green but much too big for me - our cemetery is a lot smaller and even there it takes forever to find the right grave 😉

But I have to admit that walking through a cemetery is peaceful and the silence is awesome. If the people did behave that way everywhere, I would go more often for a walk in the city 😀

Ohh yes I hadn,t thought about that trying to find a grave in such a big cemetery would be a challenge for sure, smaller ones are nice in that regard

Probably that is the best. I like the "a picture says more than a thousands words" expression. Very true.

I rarely walk in cemeteries, so I cannot say much about it this time. I agree that this is a well maintained cemetery. I undestand that walking in cemeteries is giving a peaceful and relaxed feeling to some people. My former housemate often say that "the dead is not harming you. The living does". And there is truth in these sentences.

Thank you for the unexpected surprise :) and for an interesting virtual walk through the cemetery. I like such places, they are quiet and calm, there is no fuss and you can make interesting finds, both historical and in terms of photography :)

It is a quiet and serene place to lay someone to rest.
Very well maintained too... tree lined ways... it must be nice Summertime
when all the trees have foliage. Be sure to take photos again on Summer, @tattoodjay !

Absolutely amazing pictures from that cemetery, the greenery is slowly coming back beautifully. Hopefully those lying there are in total peace or have happily reincarnated, life's still a mystery, who knows. Anyways, thank you for sharing and wishing you a great Thursday ahead :}
