Hmmmmm…… Where should I start from? Joining this contest is a difficult one, I won’t lie😅😅. At the moment of writing this, I was going through an emotional rollercoaster. The name ‘NONYE’ is already sparking nostalgic memories from my end. I guess by now, I must have created a scenario in your head. Well whatever scenario you have in your head is not far from what happened.

Nonye My First love
To start, my relationship with Nonye was a bitter sweet experience, in fact I was the only one that called her Nonye. I can’t even talk about love without remembering Chinonye, because she made me believe that love was real, this automatically makes her my first love. I would love to give you all a brief run down on how everything started.

MY JOURNEY TO LOVE (IJE MUNA LOVE-IGBO INTERPRETATION)

To be honest, a point came in my life where I thought that nothing could ever make me love a woman. I said to myself ‘Tony na mumu dey love’ meaning that love is for fools 😅😅. Yes of course when I was much younger, I could get to admire my class girls, especially those very beautiful ones. I still didn’t make it obvious that I admired them, I never really believed in love.

Here comes the real gist, I went to a mixed boarding school, back in my secondary school days. I was the Library/Study Prefect, so I had a female assistant😅 now guess who? Guess ooo😅😅 but wait let me continue. The school authorities normally selected their library prefect based on: Academic Performance, Character, Neatness and in learning. So I had these four qualities likewise my assistant ‘NONYE’ 😅😅. So we started carrying out our study/library functions, during school break periods, we would organize junior students to clean up the environment and put the books at the proper shelf section. As a hard guy I was, I hardly talked to her, even when talking to her I couldn’t look her straight in the eye. She had a very good team spirit, I’d say she was very organized. She made work so easy for me as a library prefect, so I started feeling very comfortable around her, as I would release the Library key for her to use whenever she needed it. We became good friends, and to be sincere I admired her fair complexion, plus her beautiful height.

As time went on we started familiarizing with each other. One very evening something happened on the school pitch, I started breathing so fast while playing football and Immediately collapsed on the school pitch, it was a terrible experience as everyone rushed to know what was wrong, I later regained consciousness at the school clinic, and to my greatest suprise the first person I saw at my sick bed was NONYE, she was crying because of the incident. She was so scared, that she was going to lose me, when I woke up she immediately gave me a hug and most of my friends there were just whispering to themselves. I felt so much love from her, she always brought me food from the refectory, a point came when it dawned on me that bad boy is in love. While receiving treatment in the clinic, She would copy notes for me, after classes she comes to see me and even buy me snacks.

I later got discharged, as I continued my usual school activities, and to be frank with you all, I started thinking of her everyday. Sometimes we just jam our eyes in class and just smile to each other. I just saw the love right before me, so I took the courage to fix a private meeting with her at the library. It was in the evening after class activities were completed for the day, we moved down to the library to discuss. I picked up the courage to as her if she could be my girlfriend, and without hesitation she blushed with a yes from her mouth. I felt so happy, we both hugged and the rest was history……

The Beginning Of The End

After we graduated from secondary, our relationship was still strong and then I got admission into the school of pharmacy. Nonye at the other hand didn’t get the course of her choice, and she decided to retry again while I started school. I really missed her, but now the university is a very big place where you get to see different faces. I familiarized with some school friends as I waited the next year for Nonye to get admission into her course of choice. The following year she tried again, but unfortunately she didn’t get admission into medicine and surgery, the university decided to give her Anatomy. She had no option than to accept it, at my own end I was happy she was finally going to come to my university and at the other end I was sad because she didn’t get her course of choice.

Her First Visit To My Lodge

Finally she came to school at the beginning of the new section, and the first person she came to visit on arrival was me. She visited my lodge and I welcomed her with a lot of Goodies. We discussed, laughed and cuddled together and kissed. I missed every moment with her, as time went on we started dating officially as we progressed to the next level of our relationship. She brought me delicacies prepared by her very self from the hostel, sometimes she visits weekends to help me cook and wash my clothes as pharmacy programme was after my dear life 😅.

Sadly she just had one year to start in my campus because the department of Anatomy was in Enugu Campus. Anatomy first year students only spent a year in Nsukka campus and the remaining three years is spent in Enugu campus. This always bothered me because I was to complete my pharmacy programme in Nsukka campus. I really disliked long distance relationship but it was coming right before my face. I even bought her another form to write jamb, so she could get her dream course. I really wanted her to remain in nsukka campus but all effort was in vain as no plan worked out.

Our First Date

After a year of beautiful love story, date and experience, her dad decided to fly her out of the country because he never liked anatomy. It really hit me hard because this was worse than her staying in Enugu campus, which I could always travel a few miles to go see her. I just had to accept my faith, and we decided to give our love a break because I felt so insecure, being my first time in a relationship I felt that her leaving my sight would make me lose her, it was very difficult for us both as we went through an emotional rollercoaster, knowing that we wouldn’t be seeing anytime soon. For me, phone calls and video calls can only hold a relationship for just sometime but a time would come when you need to feel the person’s presence. Fast forward to this present moment, she is a nursing student at the university of Bradford UK, we are friends at the moment and maybe in future we could get to see each other someday.

We moved on with our various lives, even though we are no more together I can’t mention love without mentioning ‘NONYE’.
Finally we gained valuable experience from our relationship, and I am very happy to share this with you all.
