"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
In the Philippines, November is designated as National Reading Month. Because of Department of Education Memorandum #44-2011, elementary and secondary schools nationwide will commemorate this month. November National Reading Month, or "Araw ng Pagbasa," is the most exciting day of the month. This day is notable because it was proclaimed by Republic Act 10556, which the late former president Benigno Aquino III signed into law.
Unfortunately, many Filipino students have had trouble understanding what they have read over the last five years. Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio stated that the COVID-19 pandemic's prolonged school closures worsened this issue. The good news is that National Reading Month is a reminder of the value of reading in the classroom.
Imagination and knowledge abound in the world of reading. It advances our language abilities, broadens our knowledge base, and enhances our comprehension of reality. Thus, let's celebrate the love of reading this National Reading Month and inspire everyone, especially the younger generation, to pick up a book and discover the wonders contained within its pages.
Cheers to National Book Month!
Yesterday, our school participated in National Reading Month, and as part of the said activity, they will wear what they read. The students will wear their favourite book characters, and they will present them on the stage. They are so happy as they walk in their costume in the crowd.
Aside from wearing their costume, we also prepared activities where a mystery reader reads in front of the students and they answer some questions. If they get the correct answer, they'll receive other rewards in addition to some candy.
Additionally, they participated in a drawing competition where students showed their artistic abilities by colouring and creating imaginative drawings based on the theme of the reading month.
Following every activity, we presented the participants with their awards. Each month's top readers received a certificate of appreciation, as did the drawing and colouring contest winner.
As teachers, we take great pride in seeing our students give everything they have to participate in all school-related activities. They are growing more engaged and effective as a result. These exercises will strengthen their capacities and skills, enabling them to advance as students.
Despite our distant location, we are thrilled to witness our students participating in various activities and discovering new aspects of themselves during their school days.
We also appreciate this program, which helps students practice and enhance their reading abilities. Reading is among the most important lessons that students should learn.
Since reading is a part of daily life, we can be confident that students who can read will have a higher chance of achieving their life goals. By doing this, we can also save the generation and assist everyone in becoming more productive and competitive globally.
We are now anticipating additional events in the future, and our students will be even more enthusiastic about these activities, which will undoubtedly benefit them.
