Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!
Another Out Of Town Fix.
Well cheers to our head office! Really cheers to them!
They rebuilt this transmission and well as we'd not have it, it ended up back in the shop... our shop! We didn't even fix this but the worst is yet to come! The client is from the same town that I reside in and we didn't get the job, they took the job right from under our noses and now we have to fix the baby.
Not liking this at all but here we go!
The Problem At Play.
So the problem this car has is that it was leaking oil out of the converter pump seal and well it didn't drive anymore when selected into gear.. Now that all points to either a low on oil problem or a pump problem and it wasn't really low on oil at all!
First we have to get the converter out of place, because of the binding of the bushes it wont really just fall out, you've got to give it some gentle persuasion!
At-least we got her out withoutthe converter shooting into the air!
That is always good!
Now the real work can finally begin!
Let's crack her open and see what might be fishing about on the inside!
Oh Dear!
Now that is the story for you there!
This transmission pump took a real beating here! They must have done an improper fitment on it and well that cost them dearly... or rather us.. this is costing us dearly!
The pump is a little shaven there which means it binded up and then it wears out the metal and then there isn't really any oil pressure inside the transmission, hence why it doesn't move.
A Closer Look, Looks Worse!
Whelp that's a problem now isn't it? No wonder the car didn't drive very far at all! We've got to get this one fixed now!
Luckily we have a whole bunch of these second hand that are as good as new, might be I find one that'll fit the job!
I also noticed that the bush inside that gear was not pressed deep enough or it overheated and started spinning out or rather pushing out.
Maybe A Little Too Tight!
The other thing I noticed which might be irrelevant now is that the pump gear was going over way too tight! I had to use force to twist it, both on and off! Not even with oil did it work very great.
That means it's not getting any lubrication and that might be why the pump failed, or it just ran dry of oil!
The Damage Might Have Been Worse!
Heck I can see why this box didn't want to move, it has so many faults that relate back to pressure loss issues!
There's a few threads stripped to bits which is directly holding the pump in place and the valve body!
Those will have to be tapped and inserted!
Hectic!
