#novemberinleo Day 18!!! A world without music? What is your take?

Share it with the community Afri-Tunes!

Are there positives?

Before we got down to the real nittygritty and all the negatives with not having music, let's look at some theoretical positives....

After all I believe in being positive!

I can think of two...

1 - Less noise pollution
The world might be a quieter place without constant music playing in public spaces and from personal devices. Have you ever sat next to some fluffer on a train or bus and they have some shitty music (to your ears anyway) blaring away!

2 - Increased focus
Without music as a distraction, people might be able to concentrate better on tasks. But in the case of Afghanistan I think it just brings resentment, not increased focus.

My drawbacks if there is no music!

As you might know we are entering winter and that means less and less daylight which means more and more levels of depression for me.

Now throw in the banning of music and I will pull my hair out big time!

  • Expressing my moods
For me music is a langauge, a language of emotion. Just think about it...
Different music for different moods. For me happiness is through music, but if you are annoyed, if you are upset you choose the music to suit your moods...
  • Cutting my creativity and productivity
Throughout my career I had a reputation as an out of the box thinker, and was often the reason I got sent to some far flung place to troubleshoot a project or operation. One of my tools was having music playing in the background. It focuses my mind.

  • Problems with my memory recall
Are you like me and associate music and certain songs with events and experiences that happen throughout your life.
My memory is fluffing awesome for things I want to remember. But for many things I have no memory until I recollect a song and then bam back comes the memory!

  • Being a miserable bastard
Can you imagine living in a society where they burn your musical instruments?
Well that is the reality in Afghanistan now that the Taliban are back in control.
Talk about boring. No earworms though no feet tapping, no singing out loud when you hear a tune you like!

Uff no thank you, I need my music!

General problems in society with no music...

Of course it would not just be me that would be a miserable bastard, there would be problems in society as a whole.

  • The obvious ... No music industry.
Bam no jobs for musicians, producers, DJs, instrument makers and everyone else involved in the music ecosystem.

  • Culture impact
I have worked all over and one of the things I live when going somewhere is seeing their customs and traditions.
Take Scotland for instance, we have bagpipes and kilts. I know I know many people would happily band the pipes but that is identity it is culture.
Get rid of music and you seriously cut culture!

  • No musicals no screenscores, the impact on films and other industries!
Are you like me and you find music adds to a film or series you are watching? It is an art matching the right music to action etc!
But it is not just films, what about advertising and even fashion? Walking down the catwalk to nothing!

Lastly ... Just imagine going to festivals with no music, parties with no music weddings with no music football matches with no music!

No, no thanks and no I won't be visiting a Taliban country!

Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoyed my response to the prompt.

I recently went on a road trip with my friend and while he was driving we didn't have any music on. When it was my turn to drive I said sorry, but I have to have music. We ended up using my playlist the entire rest of the trip, even when he was driving!

Hehe I didn't even think about driving. Oh hell yeah gotta have tunes on when you are driving especially on a road trip! I would have been the same as you!

Absolute power leads to absolute corruption. The Taliban have proved their good at that in the past...

Absolutely! I think it is even worse now compared to what it was 20 odd years ago unfortunately.

The one thing I can tell you from Afghanistan is that the Taliban cannot ever be trusted to keep their word or even remotely try to do anything positive for the people there. It really feels like all the time and lives lost there were a colossal waste. It's such a shame, I met some really good people there and now we abandoned them to the brutality of the Taliban round 2, with a vengeance...

I can't think of a negative impact of music until now. But I think music can be a distraction only when not used right. I study with music most time tho.

Nice write-up, thanks for sharing with us
