The 70s

As a child we were moving from Edinburgh to the Orkney Islands on 17th August 1977 (my birthday).
For those of you that don't know the Orkney islands are a group of islands off the northern coast of Scotland, and it meant a long-arse drive up to Scrabster in the far north of Scotland on shitty roads in those days to catch a ferry to Orkney.

We were up early and all that I can remember coming from the radio was the news that Elvis Pressley The King of Rock n Roll had passed away the night before on August 16th. It was Elvis songs and stories all day long on the radio whist we driving on the long journey, eating sliced and diced cabbage in the back of the car.

Way Down had only just been released in the UK not long before his death and it was played alot and so is my choice of song from the 70s that brings back memories!

The 80s

In actual fact I could have chosen loads of songs from the 70s and 80s, and whilst I picked the Elvis for the 70s, narrowing it down to one for the 80s is much harder. Although when I was university in Wales some of the local girls would call me the Scottish Elvis🤣

I am going back to the early 80s and probably my most favourite all round genre of music which is ska/2 tone and this song is Ghost Town by The Specials.

Ghost Town was playing in the shop when I got my first pair of black Dr Martens shoes as a teenager for school. I was pretty chuffed as I had earned the money myself from a summer job to buy them!

The 90s

The 90s is the easist decade for me to choose, in fact it so easy that I can only choose only one song.
It was the era of my Rangers football watching days at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow. We won the league title nine years in a row and there was one song that was adopted by the fans and club alike, and it was played as the players ran out on to the pitch.

The artist is Tina Turner and I am sure @coquicoin knows what song it will be!

The naughties

Three decades down and one to go, now this is when it gets trickier. I must admit I have far more memories related to music from the last century compared to this current one!

I think however, that it is fitting that this charming rascal picks a song from the naughties!

I do remember working in Spain and going to the pub one night and seeing this video that came out and just thinking wtf!

These four songs comprise my musical memories and this is my out of competition post for the Silver Bloggers Community #BOM for August.

Thank you very much for reading and/or listening!

DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND DO IT OFTEN

Haste Ye Back!

Sort:

Advance Happy Birthday Tito Ed :)
All the best and I wish the wish you wish hehe! Cheers!

I knew TT will not be absent from your music memories :) She's simply the best!

aww salamuch CJ:)
hehe yes she had to be there, well as you say she's Simply The Best:)

Wow, I imagine it was quite a shock to have lived through the death of the king. I lived something like that with the death of Princess Diana and the pope. I lived through the radio and television. I think we gorilaz share the same taste in song. I think that if I were to participate it would be very difficult to choose just one.

Oh yes I remember when Princess Diana died, I was at a wedding, a massive shock to everyone.
It is very hard to choose one song from each decade Carolina. I am glad you liked Gorillaz🦍🦍🦍

Hello hello Super Ed. I knew Simply the Best would be on this list, and you haven't surprised me this time ;)
Haha and I'm not the only one who likes to give you names then, Scottish Elvis, and I wonder if the name was because of how handsome Don Modesto was?
If I remember correctly, today is the day you had to go back to the gov paperwork, so I hope all went well.
Happy Tuesday, Super Ed

hehe I knew that you would know it would Super Eli!
It is next Tuesday Super Eli at 1.30pm the government hoohaa.
Aye Don Modesto had been around a long time 🤣🤣🤣

Seeing this post of yours @tengolotodo reminds me of my grandma playing Elvis P's Let's twist again and me as a young kid dancing around with it. Mamang (Grandma) would happily clap her hands while she watches me groove. Miss the old times...

Happy Blessed Birthday btw. Hope you get spoilt! ❤️

hehe so Chichi was a groover! Love it:)
thank you it was a fun one, and indeed I did get spoilt:)

Good to know. 😊

hehe ;)

I'm surprised you have Gorillaz in there. I miss that song! Scottish Elvis, huh? Interesting :D

oh I love the Gorillaz, so different when they first started but awesomess.
hehe the Scottish Elvis kuya 🤣🤣🤣

I'm only familiar with some of their songs :)

I have yet to hear you sing, kuya :D

I might make a #threetunetuesday post on them one day!
jeje one day kuya one day!

Be sure to inform me kuya :D

Will do kuya :)

Good old songs, still not out of tune 😊.
I love listening to old songs, especially that in the Philippines, old songs are played on the radios every Sunday haha.

You are oldie at heart janey 🤣
Yea I have heard before about older songs being played on the radio on a Sunday in The Philippes, does that still happen now I wonder?

Well, believe it or not, I was never an Elvis fan but now that I'm a tad older wiser, I enjoy listening to his music. We watched the movie Elvis just the other night, it was really criminal how his manager pushed him beyond the limits to perform!
Love your song choice, I was not familiar with The Specials!
What would life be like without music, not so! I got carried away with my choices, could not stop ;)
So...you're a couple of months younger than my oldest son...REALLY makes me feel old!
But...a very happy birthday tomorrow, I hope you're going to get totally spoiled xxx

Happy Birthday!!!! I always heard of Elvis but I've not taken any time to listen to him. Perhaps .. I'll change that.

Thank you Deraa:)
Ah Elvis is cool in small doses I think.
Perfect to have in the background whilst mashing potatoes!

This post was "sunshine in a bag!" Loved all the songs you shared. 🤗

hehe clever but yeah I like sunshine so to speak when I listen to music :)

Ah great choices with Ghost Towna nd the Gorillaz! I'd find it sooo hard to choose! I might leave it til next Tuesday and try to combine #ttt with it, even though it's four songs - I'm sure @ablaze will forgive me.

I didn't know you lived on the Orkneys! I would so love to go there. My sister did a bit of archaelogy there. One day!

hehe yeah Ghost Town was a classic and the Gorrilaz just mad!I meant to actually combine with ttt when I started writing but then completely forgot until after I had hit publish.
Oh Orkney is just so full of archaeology it is amazing. I bet she had a blast.

Start celebrating early, happy birthday tomorrow (same day as my Mom), never a fan of Elvis, Tina though a completely different story.

Nice blast from the past, have not heard of Dr Martens in many years, solid stompers that lasted for years.

!LUV

Tina well Tina is Tina and just an absolute blast. I think Elvis was an acquired thast.
Dr Martens are awesome, I still have a pair of shoes, they are so comfy and hard wearing.
Ah your mum was the day as me, how cool is that and thank you Joan:)

Happy Birthday untitled.gif To You....

aww thank you Joan :)

I have been meaning to stop over for days now! Sorry it's taken so long...ahem...better late to the party than not at all!

Elvis 1977: how could I forget? I was in Standard Seven (year 9) and one of our teachers came to school dressed in black from head to toe. The Husband (17 years my senior) is a die hard Elvis fan and will always drag me up to dance whenever anything Elvis is played!

I love your choice for the 80s and which is kinda seeing a resurgence now.

You know, that Tina Turner was on my list of possible choices...but I didn't pick it because the back story ... ahem ...

I must admit I have far more memories related to music from the last century compared to this current one!

That was also a tall order for me!

Goodness! I loved their songs especially Elvis and Tina. They are popular in the oldies here in the Philippines. Haha. Most of the time, my grandma played Tina's songs every Sundays.

Songs back then are quite soulful, straightforward and deep meaning unlike today. Just the sounds and tunes are good.

hehe songs of today I guess are for a different generation!
Tina is awesome and I think Elvis is an acquired taste. I like your grandma, that is great she played Tina:)
