Winter’s stroll on the Scottish Seafield beach in the sun

A wee while ago you would think the UK had been hurled into an Artic winter with untold snowfalls and frost galore if you read or listened to MSM!

Well that might have been the case in England and Wales. But up here on the East coast of Scotland in Fife we had glorious sunshine albeit with a touch of frost if you looked for it!

Winter’s stroll on the Scottish Seafield beach in the sun.png

image.png

But it did bring the opportunities to go for some lovely walks and get some much needed vitamin D from the sun.

image.png

There is only so much benefit you can get from taking vitamin supplements.

You can see the clear blue sky as we head down murder hill past our local football club Raith Rovers.

image.png

Between my house and the beach or sea side where we are strolling too this afternoon is the Teal Burn that runs into the sea.

image.png

Alongside is one of the old mills, Kirkcaldy was full of them. This has now been turned into offices and flats (accommodation).

On the end walls you can just if you zoom in see some Christmas lights, we shall see them on the walk home.

image.png

image.png

Although it is 2.20 in the afternoon, being winter in the Northern hemisphere the moon is visible.

As we were near a full moon, it is pretty fluffing full! We shall see more of the moon on our return trip!

image.png

The beach in question was Seafield beach and look there was a raven trying to read us something on that blue sign....

Bathing Water Quality

image.png

Ah the bathing water quality ...

Well I shan't be bathing in the sea today.

Yes the sun was out but no siree no thank you!

image.png

It really was a gorgeous day.

image.png

Did I say it was cold? Hehe it is winter so of course it is!

image.png

There is not really much of a spillage of water here... But ...

Fluffing Freezing

image.png

You can see the ice where the water has frozen!

image.png

So yes that is too cold for me!

image.png

image.png

As I mentioned it was 2.20 when we got to the beach and the sun was starting to set!

It does give such gorgeous colours though..

image.png

The tide was halfway out and people were out collecting things...

image.png

The sun glancing long shadows everywhere too!

image.png

image.png

Mill pond

The sea when is like this we call as calm as a mill pond.

I snapped this and one of the vivid filters gives it a painting effect I think.. What do you think? Especially with the seagulls on there?

image.png

I just love the sound of the waves, water crashing on rocks, the power of nature is something else.

image.png

Today of course being so calm, there was no real surf or breakers to crash against rocks.

image.png

image.png

Play Ball with me?

Too cold for me to be barefoot!

image.png

But not too cold for the pups get sand on their paws.

Now what do you think this pup is looking at?

His ball?

image.png

Or wondering what the fluff his guardian is upto?

image.png

Spoots galore ... Do you know what spoots are?

image.png

One of my favourite seafoods which is quite uncommon is spoots or razorfish. These are their shells and this was quite a grouping of them.

image.png

It looked like these two pups were on the trail of more razorfish!

image.png

While I was snapping the dogs, I nearly tripped over a set of reindeer antlers...

Okay okay you got me, they aren't real antlers, but they could be...

image.png

Talking of reindeer it was now actually starting to get quite cold.

The sun was setting fast and it was close to four pm now.

It was time to leave the beach.

image.png

image.png

These blocks were to stop tanks from landing in World War 2 so are actually about 1 metre in size.

I don't know who who made the dumper truck but I like it!

I purposely did not show any beach combing finds ...

What are these?

Any clues...

image.png

This time we really are gone, but those colours that nature provides us for free!

Simply gorgeous...

image.png

image.png

The building lights!

Remember on the way down to the beach we saw this old mill building and I mention the lights, well you can see them lit up now!

image.png

And ye talking of things that are lit up... The moon!

And with that, we were a hop skip and a jump from home!

This post is for #wednesdaywalk which was inspired by @tattoodjay

Thanks for visiting and I hope you managed to get out for a walk this week.

Oh, those lights aren't what I expected at all. Pretty cool though! We still have our Christmas lights up as well.

Yeah the lights are cool and actually money gets raised for charity as businesses each sponsor one of the shapes.

Now that's very cool!

I had to google what is spoots and now I wanna try it. But do you need to cook it or can eat fresh? :)

!PIZZA

Yes they are long thin clams. Ah I have only ever cooked them, not sure if you can eat raw.

Yeah. I checked some local restaurants here and seems we have the razor shell here too. And I plan to try it next week :)

What is that you found? I cannot guess😌. Looks like a styrofoam.
Can't imagine when the sun is shining brightly yet it's freezing😬.

They are ceramic and I think very old fashioned electrical plugs!
Hehe yes you would be freezing 😝

From the snap shots its evident you enjoyed a lot on your Wednesday walk. So frozen, the water turned to ice in one if the pic. The weather looks pleasant at some places I believe. Have a wonderful day !!!

Thank you it was fun to get out and enjoy the sun even if it was cold!
Enjoy your Thursday :)

Thankyou. That's the spirit to move on.

Never heard of spoots, puppies on the beach always have a way of making it look entertaining irrespective of the weather!

Awesome collection of photography along the walk today, wish we could feel free to walk around down here, alas a thing of the past!

Photo of sunset looking over sea my favourite today!

Spoots are long clams and pretty tasty. I remember hunting them as a kid, when they would react to your movements.
The sunset was pretty cool and that is so sad you can't freely go walking!
Hope you are feeling better Joan.
!BEER

We have a great variety of clams and mussels along our coastline, never heard or seen one of yours.

Slowly perking up, still bucket loads of work to get through, will survive, 'bad penny always turns up'! 🙃

Many thanks for the curation!

What do people collect on the beach? Seashells, fish, treasures? I see the shells you point out: the long ones I don't know, I imagine they are the razor shells or spoots, but the small ones are known here as “chipichipi”, with those seafood they make delicious “consommé” that are able to raise even the dead. It has a lot of phosphorus! I loved this ride: beautiful colors, breathtaking scenery and a full moon in the evening. Hugs, Ed

Navajas is their name, they are long clams.
Ah so they collect seashells, seaglass and pottery sherds or pieces.
The consommé sounds delicious Nancy!
Wishing you a wonderful Thursday and big hugs.

seeing the ice for sure to cold for swimming, but great you got out for some walk and to replenish your vitamin D

gorgeous sunset colors and how cool are those light son the building

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk and have a great day

Always good to get out when we do get sun even if is cold lol.
Thanks Jayand havea great week.

👍🙂👍

Are spoots what is called navajas in Spain?

The beach looks so beautiful at sunset. In fact sunset is my favorite time at the beach. I love to watch the sea when the sun goes down.

And I have no idea what is that you found on the beach, jeje.

Oh clever, yes they are navajas in Spain and cooked in garlic butter is a great way to have them with fresh bread.

They are ceramic but I don't know what they are either Super Eli!

PIZZA!

We don't have an American version of a football club exactly. We have gyms of course, but not a club focused around one team and one sport with multiple age groups. I clicked through to the Raith Rovers Football Club webpage to learn a bit more.

What in the heck is "walking football" and how does that get played? Do the players have to kick from further back when attempting a goal?
