Ten K Minnows: Bouncing back

in #hive3 years ago

It has been a while since I did a post about the number of Hive minnows. Back in January there were 8422 and now there is one more! Actually this does not tell the full story as by last month it had dropped to around 8345, so there has been a recent recovery.

Stats
Stats from @arcange. You can find other stats posts in the Hive Statistics community.

We have lost about 30 dolphins since January and that is concerning. Orcas and whales have not really changed.

Hive needs to both retain users and get them to build their accounts. I do suspect a fair few people have shifted funds to HBD savings to benefit from the interest you get on that, so there may be less HP being held. Smaller accounts may consider the return from curation to not be enough. They can make 20% on HBD, but with curation you might get around 12% if you optimise it. Of course if the $HIVE price goes up then your account could increase much more in value if you are holding that. It can be a choice between risk and certainty.

In any case this account will continue to support small accounts who are active in both posting and commenting, whilst not powering down. The whole idea is to increase the number of minnows.

I am very grateful for the delegations, but you can also help by following the voting trail with Hive Vote. You get to earn too that way. I am not trying to make this account rich, but there are no plans to power it down. Maybe when we finally get to 10,000 minnows then some funds may get distributed to other accounts who are nearly there. We will face that decision when the time comes.

Your suggestions are welcome on how we can improve matters. Hive ought to be growing faster, but is still little known. It has excellent development going on with lots of options to earn, socialise and play games. There should be something for nearly everyone. Some will argue that on-boarding is hard, but you can now create an account if you use Twitter or Facebook via Leo Finance. Any user with a reasonable stake can get account creation tokens to create them for friends. You may just need to mentor them in things like key management, but anyone with some on-line experience should be able to cope. They may just need encouragement in the early days when it feels like they are not earning much.

Hive is built on people, so they are a key asset. When we reach critical mass it will really take off and even though joining now will count as early adopters. Anyone can earn on Hive if given the chance.

Hive five!

I really appreciate every concern you've distributed in ensuring Hive progress and every individuals benefits from it as well. Keep up the good work moving.

Really, I didn't know Leo Finance was linking people through their Twitter and FB accounts? Is that still secure? Do they still get keys and the like?

I've not tried it out yet. It will be interesting to see how it actually works. I trust them to do it right.

user growth and retention are one of the few things that worry me about Hive long term

The Saturday Savers Club over on the @eddie-earner account has a lovely little community that helps people to build their account. There is a post every weekend, usually Saturdays but sometimes on Sunday if I am busy. People are doing really well working towards their goals and people give each other lots of ideas.

Good to hear that. I know there are lots of little projects around Hive doing things like this. Ten K Minnows is my contribution. !BEER

I thought that maybe the accounts Ten K Minnows votes for would be interested in taking part. Everyone is very welcome. Here's the latest post.

I'll share it for them. I have no idea how many of those it supports follow it or me.

Hey @shanibeer, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

I will support this project.

I am a little surprised that there are so few dolphins. I would have expected to see more to be honest.

Your support has played a very important role in my journey here and I was a minnow in 2019. You're doing great work to add more value in to hive. Thanks for everything that you do and it's making a positive impact on this platform.

Dear @tenkminnows, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Your support would be really helpful and you could make a difference.
Thank you!
