🇯🇵 {08/07/24} ✦ Do you remember "Di Gi Charat" (1999)? 👽 🎀 I have designed a Cosplay adaptation of Dejiko-Chan 📝✨ ✦ 🇪🇸 │ 🇺🇸

Pero mientras buscaba mas detalles sobre estas nuevas producciones, me impacto mucho saber que una de mis series favoritas de hace casi 25 años tuvo un nuevo anime que estrenó en 2022. No sabía absolutamente nada y me he quedado pasmada porque yo AMABA a muerte DiGiCharat por allá a inicios del 2000s.

But while I was looking for more details about these new productions, I was shocked to learn that one of my favorite series from almost 25 years ago had a new anime premiering in 2022. I knew absolutely nothing about it and have been stunned because I LOVED DiGiCharat to death back in the early 2000s.

¡Vamos a ubicarnos en contexto!, ¿qué es DiGiCharat?, ésta fue una serie anime que estrenó el 29 de noviembre de 1999 en Japón, y es una referencia imperdible si quieres hablar de anime del género humor absurdo, dadaísta e incluso "crack", y que en su momento causó furor por el tono de su guion, chistes y cantidad de referencias: Los episodios son cortos, de menos de 6 minutos (lo que la hacia ideal para comprar en eventos manganime cuando solo podias acceder a series comprando CD´s donde apenas cabían 3 capítulos regulares), también cuenta con varios especiales y películas.

Let's get into context, what is DiGiCharat? this was an anime series that premiered on November 29, 1999 in Japan, and is an unmissable reference if you want to talk about anime of the genre absurd humor, dadaist and even "crack", and that at the time caused a furor for the tone of its script, jokes and number of references: The episodes are short, less than 6 minutes (which made it ideal to buy at manganime events when you could only access series buying CD's where barely fit 3 regular chapters), also has several specials and movies.

¿Qué hace especial a esta nueva serie de DiGiCharat?, aunque aun no termino de ver todos los capítulos, el primero a superado mis expectativas: En la serie original, Dejiko nuestra protagonista es una alienígena que llega a la tierra y para poder vivir termina trabajando en una tienda otaku de Akibahara. Esta nueva serie parece directamente la continuación del "¿qué ha ocurrido desde entonces?". Me parecio una genialidad que continuaran con ese tono de humor loco muy característico de DiGiCharat, donde sin dar demasiadas explicaciones, las cosas pasan porque pasan y ya, y en el camino es muy posible que Dejiko lance rayos laser por los ojos.

What makes this new DiGiCharat series special? Although I haven't finished watching all the episodes, the first one has exceeded my expectations: In the original series, Dejiko, our protagonist, is an alien who arrives on Earth and ends up working in an otaku store in Akibahara in order to live. This new series seems directly the continuation of "what has happened since then?" I thought it was great that they continued with that crazy humor tone very characteristic of DiGiCharat, where without giving too many explanations, things happen just because they happen, and along the way it is very possible that Dejiko throws laser beams out of her eyes.

En esta nueva serie, la animación es bastante bonita y podríamos decir que los personajes pasaron por un "glow-up" peculiar... han respetado no solo las características originales de la estética de cada personaje sino su diseño en general, ¡algo muy extraño de ver!, Dejiko y Rabi-En-Rose se ven prácticamente igual pero más del "2020", me hizo muy feliz ver que conservaran aun esos accesorios gigantes, que era lo que más me gustaba de ellas.

In this new series, the animation is quite nice and we could say that the characters went through a peculiar "glow-up"... they have respected not only the original aesthetic features of each character but their overall design, something very strange to see, Dejiko and Rabi-En-Rose look practically the same but more of the "2020", it made me very happy to see that they still kept those giant accessories, which was what I liked the most about them.

Ver el nuevo anime de DigiCharat me ha traído muchos lindos recuerdos, y también la memoria de que en aquel tiempo yo quería hacer Cosplay de Dejiko, pero en ese entonces todavía no tenía las habilidades suficientes para crearlo, y las tiendas de internet no son lo que son hoy en día, además importar cosas a Venezuela era un dolor de cabeza. Asi que ayer domingo me tome un descanso para meditar, y pensar, "si decidiera hacer Cosplay de Dejiko hoy, ¿Cómo seria el diseño?...", y comencé a dibujar mi visión de cómo me gustaria fuera ese traje.

Watching the new DigiCharat anime has brought me many nice memories, and also the memory that at that time I wanted to make Dejiko Cosplay, but back then I still didn't have enough skills to create it, and the internet stores are not what they are nowadays, plus importing stuff to Venezuela was a headache. So yesterday Sunday I took a break to meditate, and think, "if I decided to cosplay Dejiko today, what would the design look like?...", and I started to draw my vision of how I would like the costume to look like.

Pero ayer cuando comencé a dibujar ya era muy de noche y lo deje a medio terminar; hoy por la mañana al despertar tome de nuevo el blog de dibujo y comencé a limpiar todos los bocetos que hice. Pensé en un conjunto de 7 a 8 piezas: Vestido, delantal alto, lazo para la espalda, lazo para el pecho, medias altas decoradas, guantes decorados, zapatos son lazos hasta las rodillas y el tocado de la cabeza.

But yesterday when I started drawing it was already late at night and I left it half finished; today morning when I woke up I took the drawing blog again and started to clean up all the sketches I made. I thought of a set of 7 to 8 pieces: Dress, high apron, bow for the back, bow for the chest, decorated high stockings, decorated gloves, shoes are bows to the knees and the headdress.

Hace mucho tiempo que no dibujaba un figurín como propuesta para un proyecto Cosplay así que no es perfecto como veras, pero estoy satisfecha con el resultado porque se entiende la composición del traje y el volumen y proporción que quisiera tuviera cada parte.

It's been a long time since I drew a figurine as a proposal for a Cosplay project so it's not perfect as you'll see, but I'm satisfied with the result because you can understand the composition of the costume and the volume and proportion that I would like each part to have.

Finalmente lo pinte con los marcadores a color más aproximados que tenía al tono en que imagino este Cosplay. Estoy debatiéndome entre la idea de trabajar 2 a 3 todos diferentes de color azul, o respetar la paleta de colores original de Dejiko y solo utilizar 1 tono de azul para todo el traje. Ah, y no he logrado resolver por ahora la adaptación del tocado de la cabeza, es bastante grande y mi parte favorita del conjunto asi que creo lo dejare para otro día cuando piense con más calma cómo hacerlo, porque si el complemento es demasiado ostentoso va a hacer ver simple el traje, y viceversa.

I finally painted it with the closest color markers I had to the shade I imagine this Cosplay to be. I'm debating between the idea of working 2 or 3 different shades of blue, or respecting Dejiko's original color palette and only use 1 shade of blue for the whole costume. Ah, and I haven't managed to solve for now the headdress adaptation, it's quite big and my favorite part of the outfit so I think I'll leave it for another day when I think more calmly how to do it, because if the complement is too ostentatious it will make the costume look simple, and vice versa.

Aunque esta es una idea, quisiera hacerlo realidad y colocarlo en mi lista de proyectos. Tengo bastantes pendientes donde abundan los trajes más serios, de tono bastante elegante, y esta adaptación de Dejiko aunque no sea una prioridad va a salir bastante costosa, no va a ser un traje ni remotamente barato de fabricar, pero la perspectiva de hacer Cosplay de algo que quise hace más de 15 años... wow, es dificil describir las emociones que esa idea despierta en mi. ¡Además!, qué genial seria hacer cos Cosplay-retro en estos momentos 💙 💙 💙

Although this is an idea, I would like to make it happen and put it on my project list. I have quite a few pending ones where more serious costumes abound, quite elegant in tone, and this Dejiko adaptation although not a priority it's going to come out quite expensive, it's not going to be a costume even remotely cheap to make, but the prospect of cosplaying something I wanted more than 15 years ago... wow, it's hard to describe the emotions that idea arouses in me. Besides, how cool would it be to cosplay-retro cosplay right now 💙 💙 💙
