๐ช๐ธ ~ El 28 de enero de 1821 se declara la independencia de la Provincia de Maracaibo (es decir libres e independientes del imperio espaรฑol), y en honor a esa fecha, anualmente en mi ciudad celebramos "La Semana de la Zulianidad".
En todos nuestros colegios esta semana significa eventos escolares temรกticos para celebrar nuestra identidad, costumbres, tradiciones, mรบsica, gastronomรญa y sรญmbolos.
๐บ๐ธ ~ On January 28, 1821, the Independence of the Province of Maracaibo was declared (i.e. free and independent from the Spanish Empire), and in honor of this date, every year in my city we celebrate "The Week of Zulianity".
In all our schools, this week means thematic school events to celebrate our identity, customs, traditions, music, gastronomy and symbols.

Tambiรฉn hay certรกmenes de belleza y se anima a las niรฑas a utilizar atuendos tradicionales como la manta goajira, y no es de extraรฑar ver a mรกs de una madre corriendo a ultima hora buscando dรณnde alquilar o conseguir prestada una de estas prendas.
Este aรฑo tuve la oportunidad de hacer algunos arreglos a varias mantas goajiras de talla infantil, pero una especialmente, que tiene como motivo la bandera del estado Zulia, estaba en mal estado por el largo tiempo guardada y necesitaba un poco de amor para brillar nuevamente โ ~ ('โฝ ^ ไบบ)
There are also beauty contests, and girls are encouraged to wear traditional clothing such as the goajira cloak, and it is not surprising to see more than one mother running around at the last minute looking for a place to rent or borrow one of these garments.
This year I had the opportunity to make some alterations to several child-sized goajira blankets, but one in particular, featuring the Zulia state flag, was in bad shape from long storage and needed a little love to make it shine again โ ~ ('โฝ ^ ไบบ)

ใ PASO 1 ใ Lo primero por hacer es evaluar la prenda. Para eliminar las manchas del tiempo guardado la deje remojar en jabรณn para ropa en polvo con bicarbonato, luego la lavรฉ en ciclo normal y la deje secar toda la noche. A continuaciรณn para reparar el rayo color blanco, se aplicรณ algunas capas de pintura especial para tela, y de dejo secar nuevamente toda la noche.
ใ STEP 1 ใ The first thing to do is evaluate the garment. To remove the stains from storage, I soaked it in laundry soap powder with baking soda, then washed it on a normal cycle and let it dry overnight. Next, to repair the white streaks, I applied a few coats of special fabric paint and let it dry again overnight.

ใ PASO 2 ใ Normalmente pensarรญas que para las secciones de pintura desgastada lo mejor serรญa aplicar nuevas capas de pintura pero NO. Yo necesito pluma, brillo, escarcha, asรญ que instalรฉ lentejuelas con ayuda del silicรณn caliente.
ใ STEP 2 ใ Normally you would think that the best thing to do for the worn paint areas would be to apply new coats of paint, but NO! I need feathers, glitter, frost, so I added sequins using hot silicone.

ใ PASO 3 ใ Repetimos el mismo paso con el margen de todo el rayo. "ยฟPor quรฉ pegarlas y no coser las lentejuelas?": La secciรณn que tenรญa pintura vieja es muy gruesa para ser atravesada por una aguja, coser las lentejuelas en este caso no es un atajo facil o una soluciรณn cรณmoda, es una necesidad, coser lentejuelas en este caso equivaldrรญa a dรญas enteros de trabajo y un dolor horrible en los dedos por quemaduras de fricciรณn.
ใ STEP 3 ใ We repeat the same step with the entire beam margin. "Why glue them on and not sew on the sequins?": The section that had old paint on it is too thick to be pierced by a needle, sewing on the sequins in this case is not an easy shortcut or a comfortable solution, it is a necessity, sewing on the sequins in this case would amount to days of work and horrible pain in the fingers from friction burns.

ใ PASO 4 ใ Pero un atuendo asรญ de fabuloso necesita algo extra. Mi clienta me envio algunas referencias para replicar una diadema de estrella. Los pasos aqui son bastante fรกciles e intuitivos, por eso incluรญ bastantes fotos.
ใ STEP 4 ใ But an outfit this fabulous needs something extra. My client sent me some references to replicate a star headband. The steps are pretty simple and intuitive, so I've included a lot of pictures.
ใ PASO 5 ใ Y finalmente agreguรฉ algunas lentejuelas extras a cada pico o "destello" para darle un extra de brillo por si las cรกmaras usan flash.
ใ STEP 5 ใ And finally I added some extra sequins to each peak or โsparkleโ to give it an extra shine in case the cameras use flash.

Despuรฉs de esta experiencia me estoy planteando seriamente elaborar yo misma una colecciรณn de prendas temรกticas sobre "la Zulianidad" para alquilar cada aรฑo, ยกnote que no hay un sitio o persona especรญfico al que los padres o maestros puedan llamar! o_o;;
Mientras tanto, algo de cariรฑo y muchas lentejuelas pueden hacer maravillas para darle nueva vida y un level-up a este tipo de atuendos ๐ ๐ โจ
After this experience, I am seriously considering putting together my own collection of "la Zulianidad" themed clothing to rent each year ~ Note that there is no specific website or person for parents or teachers to call! o_o;;
In the meantime, some TLC and a lot of sequins can do wonders to give this type of clothing new life and a level-up ๐ ๐ โจ
