What's a Quick Study Sketch?

This was what I asked myself today while sitting at a corner at my department staring at several people seated using their phones.

I decided to try out a quick study sketch whereby my model doesn't even know I was drawing her until I was done, and through this, I realized that aside from being quick, an artist must be able to manipulate.

Just few minutes into the study, my model had changed posture on some occasions but then, I need to register the posture I had started with, and at the end, it was more like me having a quick sketch without values.

After the quick mapping out, I then decided where my shades would be and I developed it. All time spent wasn't even more then 15mins.

This is great. I remember while I was still at my master's studio. I will always make a quick drawing of my colleagues while they are moving. At first it was stressing but with time I became faster than light (lol) and it powered my observation more.
