Some weeks ago, I planted a new set of plantain suckers in my compound, and I had the plants that, within a short period, I would be able to reap them steadily because I really love bananas so much. When I planted the suckers, they were very small, and I was thinking about how long it would take for me to start harvesting. But I was very certain that if I give it some time, I will be able to harvest it bountifully, which I am not getting close to now.
I decided to go check out the garden today, and I was amazed and baffled when I got there. Actually, what baffled me at first was the rate at which they grew so fast, but I believe it was the rainy season we are that helped them grow so fast. But the First one in front was not looking so fast with growth, or probably the species that I planted was not meant to grow that fast. But I had to check around and see how the yam I planted was doing, as well as the other plantains.
Between those bananas I planted, there was one that produced a yield of two bunches at a time. Actually, my first time seeing this grow was when I went to a friend's farm and I saw how big this grew, and I had to take the sucker to plant, and now I see how big it has grown. Due to the fact that I am not being able to clear the weeds for the plantation, I was expecting to have met a lot of weeds on the farm, but when I got there, the banana had not made the weed grow well.
For the cassava, I made use of a vacant land beside my apartment and secured it to make some cassava plantations, and now the cassava is doing fine and growing well. I hope rain will allow it to grow more and produce a better yield when it is time to harvest it. Managing a farm and having other things to do is not easy because I have just a weekend to care for the farm so that weeds will not take over everything I have labored to plant. I hope that by the time everything implanted grows well, I will be able to have lots of food to eat. And by then, I won't need to put in much effort to harvest anything I have planted.
