A few weeks ago, the Splinterlands SPS DAO flexed it's muscles and voted on a proposal that requested the Splinterlands team to create and give out a new promo card to players who have staked SPS. The proposal passed with little issue and the time has finally come to claim our newest promo card. So let's take a look at Vruz...
This little guy has been seen running around the Splinterlands site, claiming SPS for us, it's master so to speak. And little is not just a physical attribute. Requiring only 2 mana to play, this guy has 1 Melee, 1 HP, and a quick 4 Speed at Level 1. The Gold Foil version you see above (since I lucked out and grabbed one myself) gains an extra speed and HP to make it a little more of a useful filler.
I'd say the best time to play Vruz is at least Level 8 where it gains a 2nd melee attack and has Martyr (boosting it's neighbors upon it's death). Better yet, at Level 10, when he gains True Strike, so he can never miss (and waste any of it's precious few attacks it'll get before it dies). Though at that point, it has 7 speed, and shouldn't really miss much, but RNG is gonna RNG.
Now if you haven't already claimed your Vruz, you have 2 1/2 days left at the time of this post. You're allowed to claim 1 copy for every 1000 SPS you have staked (a snapshot was taken last Tuesday during maintenance). Each copy also requires a voucher, which shouldn't be too much of a problem since you had to have SPS staked anyway.
Now let's get to the brawls...
Battle #1 - Win
Ruleset - Standard
For our first battle, we get the ever rare Standard ruleset with a pretty high mana pool set at 51. We both go magic-centric with Obsidian summoners. The difference maker here is I play 4 magic wielding monsters while my opponent only uses one. This maximized my summoners ability and I'm able to plow through their defenses. This one's done in Round 3.
Battle #2 - Loss
Ruleset - Counterspell / Melee Mayhem / Silenced Summoners
My opponent takes full advantage of the Melee Mayhem ruleset by playing a full Melee lineup and Disintegrator to weaken my own Melee. Their Living Lava rounds things out further by nullifying reducing my own physical attacks. To be honest, I completely missed playing my own Disintegrator which could have evened the odds here. I have it, I own it, I just forgot to play it in a key spot here. This one was over in Round 4
Battle #3 - Win
Ruleset - Up Close and Personal / Armored Up / Explosive Weaponry
I used Jacek's +2 speed to my advantage to help me avoid many of the attacks my opponent tries to throw at me. Piercing also comes into play here to get through all the extra armor and do some damage at the same time. Despite less overall attackers and thus less total attacks, I come out of this one victorious in 5 Rounds.
Battle #4 - Loss
Ruleset - Rise of the Commons / Reverse Speed / Even Stevens
I started off this match already not feeling good. Rise of the commons already eliminates any Epic and Legedary cards I could use, then my options are halved with Even Stevens. Then my opponent throws out Immortalis when I played Obsidian, and I know I'm really in trouble. My weaker cards in the back quickly fall prey to Katrelba Gobson and of course Reverse Speed doesn't actually kick in to protect my slower monsters. Somehow even at speed 5, there's no miss against a 1 speed monster. At 7 speed, my 2 speed Terraceous Grunt with dodge can't get out of the way. What can you do though? This was over by Round 5
I finished this up and even 2-2. Though I'm not thrilled with how that last one played out, I felt like it was a loss from the very beginning, so just gotta work on forming a stronger lineup in those situations.
