I think we all have been enjoying the nice price action as of late on Hive. Hopefully we will see it break through thirty cents and stay there! I'm still holding out hope that bitcoin will finally push through $100,000, that will be a serious psychological gamechanger. Maybe later today or tomorrow, but it is going to happen!
Another Hive Power Up Day has snuck up on us again, it seems like these months just keep get shorter. I went ahead and bought ten Hive just for the occasion and powered them up for today. I do occasional power up throughout the month as well, but I like to always at least do the minimum on the first day of every month as well.
Happy HPUD everyone!
Now onto my usual Sunday giveaway post...
This past week the entry question was to share your favorite sea animal. I sure got a lot of varied answers and I've gone ahead and done a quick recap of some of the most popular ones. Oddly no one seemed to pick out the sharks, not my favorite creatures either. The most popular pick was:
Dolphins
wall.alphacoders.com
Who doesn't love dolphins? They are playful, intelligent, and like to interact with humans in nature. There are recorded cases of them working with fisherman to corral fish into nets and in turn the fisherman sharing part of the catch with the dolphins. Interspecies interaction at it's finest! I love seeing them in the wild, and frequently did in the Caribbean. This was our overall favorite pick of the week, thanks to @ekavieka , @coolguy123 , @whywhy , @bitcoinflood and @unitmaster for this choice!
Olive Ridley Turtle
fba.org.au
This was a pick by @milaan but also turtles mentioned by @logen9f . I personally think sea turtles are really cool although very hard to experience in nature much anymore as most are endangered. The Olive Ridley is no exception. They can grow very large up to 2 feet (61 cm) and have very few predators as adults, but their eggs are predated. Interestingly they lay their eggs on the same beaches in large numbers, maybe a survival trick that so many are laid not all are predated. Who knows? At any rate I hope we can save these beautiful creatures!
Orcas
wallpapercave.com
I love orcas! They are the largest member of the dolphin family and are the oceans top predators. Every sea creature steers clear of these mammals even the great white shark which is frequently one of their favorite delicacies. They are highly intelligent and live in pods that travel and hunt together. I've never seen one in the wild but I would love to, maybe one of these days! This was a pick by @ronnie10 , thanks!
Octopus
grunge.com
These eight legged sea creatures live pretty much everywhere in seas around the world. There are more than 300 species and they are highly intelligent. They also have some very interesting DNA and are capable of RNA editing at much higher rates (up to 60%) than other creatures. I have included the Wikipedia page in the references if you want to read more. I have a molecular biology background so it fascinates me but may put everyone else to sleep. Overall, they are interesting creatures and very cool to see while diving, but they are so adept at hiding you don't see them all that often.
Thanks for this pick by @mcoinz79 , @geneeverett , @rainbowdash4l k @dewabrata , and @mxm0unite !
Blue Whale
animalia-life.club
The Blue Whale is the largest animal to have ever lived and are increasingly dropping in numbers from over fishing. They are filter feeders with a diet consisting of krill, tiny shrimp like crustaceans living in most of the world's oceans. You can see just how big this mammal is compared to the diver in the picture! I've never seen one of these in person but I would certainly love to. What a beautiful animal! This was a pick by @lanzjoseg , @silvertop and @lumpiadobo ! Thanks guys!
Sea Horse
thoughtco.com
These beautiful little fish live in temperate climates around the world and are many different species. They are fun to see while reef diving, and there are generally quite a few around. They can be colorful or very well camouflaged, but always fun to spot. You can see them at most aquariums and zoos as well if you don't want to venture into the ocean or live far away from one. These were chosen by @florakese and @olaf.gui , thank you from the both of you!
Oarfish
allthatsinteresting.com
Wikipedia
Picture of a 23 foot oarfish being held by United States Navy Seals in San Diego, California in 1996
Oarfish are residents of the very deep sea as a general rule and are very rarely seen. They are considered bad omens when they wash ashore dead often proceeding earthquakes or other disasters. Recently two have washed up here in California, but so far no disasters. I'll have to cross my fingers, the last thing we need here is a major earthquake! This pick was from @sylmarill , thanks for your contribution!
And honorable mentions that I just don't have time to highlight without making this post far too long are: pufferfish by @henruc , crabs (which taste great!) by @yusmelys , mollusks by @cositav , and groupers by @kungfukid !
Now for today's entry question. What is your favorite wild cat predator? There are so many choices on this one, I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Mine is the jaguar!
The Giveaway
I will be giving out two prizes of five (5) HSBI. Third prize will be 2 DUO tokens, the token I recently launched with @bulliontools and @bitcoinman . It offers those who stake sufficient tokens daily curation on quality posts, dividends, and a tipping bot. It also helps to onboard and retain new Hive members. At the end of the post there is a link to the white paper and where to purchase the tokens. There will also be one legendary Splinterlands card as a fourth prize. If you don't play Splinterlands just let me know and I'll send you two HSBI instead. To participate you need a reputation level of at least 25 and bots cannot win. And please one entry per person to make it fair to everyone.
If you have more questions about DUO feel free to ask, it's growth is exceeding all of our expectations!
Legendary Splinterlands card up for grabs this next week:

How to Enter
Every week this will change. I'm looking for engagement rather than just saying "I am in". There is no need to upvote or re-blog, although if you choose to do so I would appreciate it. This week's question is an easy one:

And since I am spinning the same wheel four times in a row it is theoretically possible for the same person to win all four prizes! Although I have yet to see it happen, maybe this week?
