Lately when Tuesday rolls around I really don't have much idea of where I'm going to take things. I almost always participate in Three Tune Tuesday because it's a lot of fun and I've been participating for over a year now. Last week I shared some vintage reggae that everyone seemed to enjoy and a natural follow up to reggae is definitely ska! I picked out the songs for this week last week some time, so this time I was prepared beforehand.
First off I wanted to say thank you to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this weekly event. I also am the proud sponsor of one of the six HSBI units that one random winner receives each week. If you don't already participate why not join us and share some of your favorite tunes and you may win six HSBI units, and as I always say, you can never have too many of those. They are the gift that keeps on giving!
I already gave away which direction I'm headed today in the title, and I have always been a fan of ska music having grown up the the 1980s. The music style has its origins in Jamaica in the late 1950's and led to the reggae movement in the 1960's and 1970's. Many bands have embraced it over the years, and what better way to start off than with a legendary band, The Clash!
The Clash

Today I'm kicking the fun off with The Clash. Formed in London, England in 1976, they used various influences in their music including punk, ska, reggae, and even rockabilly. In 1977 they released their first self titled album that was a huge commercial success. They went on to produce six albums before calling it quits in 1986 after feeling they had done all that could musically. This song came off their third album "London Calling", this is "Rudy Can't Fail" and is a ska and punk classic!
The English Beat

The English Beat (or just known as The Beat in the UK and The British Beat in Australia) are a a band formed in Birmingham, England in 1978. This classic ska band released their first album in 1980 called "I Just Can't Stop It" . The album sold well worldwide producing multiple hits. The band didn't last long as they broke up in 1983, and producing two new huge bands, General Public and The Fine Young Cannibals, as a result of the split. This song comes off of their debut album and is a ska classic, "Mirror in the Bathroom":
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

The Bosstones formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1983 and evolved into a ska band. Their early albums didn't pick up much following and their shows weren't filling the seats. That all changed in 1997 with the release of their album "Let's Face It" that produced their huge hit "The Impression That I Get". That song will be the third up in the ska based Tuesday!
I know it's Three Tune Tuesday, but I couldn't resist throwing in a bonus major ska band that come from very close to where I live.
No Doubt

No Doubt is a band from Anaheim, California that formed in 1986.. They picked up a pretty good following in California as a third-wave ska band. Their initial self titled album released in 1992 struggled in sales competing with the grunge movement. Then in 1995 they struck gold with their album "Tragic Kingdom", which produced multiple hits and made Gwen Stefani a superstar. This song comes off of "Tragic Kingdom" and is very well know with some great ska sound, "Spiderwebs":
That will wrap up this week's edition of #threetunetuesday . I hope you enjoyed my picks of the week, and please feel free to leave any questions or comments below. I want to thank everyone for all of your support, it really is truly appreciated. I hope you all have a great day and week! In the US for many of us this is Friday because of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. It will be a welcome and very needed long weekend for me!
