Ever since I starting blogging here on Hive about a year and a half ago, I have found myself participating in some particular weekly events. When I think about it I don't participate out of some habit, but because I genuinely enjoy being involved. Three Tune Tuesday is one of those events. I guess I find picking out music is a bit of a break from the type of post I regularly create throughout the week. The change prevents burnout, and in my mind is always a good thing!
It must have been over a year ago now that I started to participate in this weekly event that @ablaze started some 165 weeks ago (more than tree years!) I still find it a lot of fun and it keeps me coming back. I've never been great at picking a theme and matching the music to it, I usually like to pick a genre and throw in whatever I happen to feel like on a given day. Last week it was punk bands fronted by female vocalists, and I left one big one out last time, so it will be my third pick today. So it looks like another day filled with early punk music of the late 1970's and early 1980's.
Here we go!
The Ramones

It really would be hard to do a serious punk post without these guys. Formed in 1974 in New York City, The Ramones went on to become one of the most important punk bands in history. They were never a huge commercial success, but produced great music. Off their third album "Rocket To Russia" they wrote one of their most catchy songs, "Rockaway Beach":
The Clash

Formed in London in 1976 The Clash became one of the biggest punk bands worldwide. During their ten year career they produced some to the most popular songs of the late seventies and early eighties. On their fourth album "Sandinista!" the band insisted that the album be low priced for their fans, and so they took a fifty percent cut on their royalties to achieve it. You wouldn't see that happen today... The lead off song on the album was "The Magnificent Seven":
The Go Go's

Formed in 1978 in Los Angeles, California this all girl band came together as huge fans of punk music. They became one of the most important all female rock bands in history and also launched Belinda Carlisle's solo career. In their debut album "Beauty and the Beat" released in 1981 they quickly became a household name. The album topped the charts by March the following year with two hit songs, "Our Lips Are Sealed" and this one "We Got The Beat":
That will wrap up this edition of #threetunetuesday . I hope you enjoyed a little more early punk music by some fun bands. When you see how the guys from The Clash and the ladies from The Go Go's dressed you can tell era almost by the clothing alone! Thank you for taking time to stop by and listen, and I hope you all have a great day. I really appreciate all of your support!
