Hive Minecraft has been up and running for around a week and we have seen around 20 unique Hivians join over the last few days with around 10 regulars.
Some have caught on pretty quick to such a complex mod pack, some have been struggling.
If you want to get involved, I highly recommend checking out my previous Hive Minecraft posts to get started.
If you are unsure your machine can handle it, you would be surprised. We have one player with a 10 year CPU, 6 year old GPU, and 8 GB of ram playing. Ram is the most important thing for modded Minecraft. The key thing is not running other applications in the background if you only have 8GB of ram and allocating 6.8G to Java as per my instructions.
A lot of players have been hanging out together and some teams have been formed to build together. In fact, many players are in the same general area working together team or no team.
I'm going to go over some tips that will help a lot getting started. My last post covered some general getting started tips, these are going to be tips that will change your life.
Ultimine
UltiMine is probably the most useful feature of All the Mods 6 that you absolutely have to learn.
By hitting the grave key ` you can mine multiple blocks at once. You can use this to chop down entire trees in one go, mining multiple blocks of stone, mining all ores of one type (vein mining), and even harvest crops in one go.
Just hold down the ` key, and you will see a white outline. For this example I am harvesting all crops at once, use left click to remove them completely or right click to just harvest and leave seeds planted. This will save you a ridiculous amount of time.
Ultimine doesn't come without a cost though, you will get hungry super fast while using Ultimine so you will need to carry a lot of food with you.
Fruit Salad
Fruit Salad is one of the best foods to create. It is actually better than meat and it is really easy to create.
First craft a cutting board.
Then you need two of any Pam's Craft fruits.
If you create a farm for these fruits once you find some, you can easily supply yourself with tons of high saturation foods.
Backpacks
Get a backpack quick! You can either make one, or find one off a mob after a bit of fighting. There are two backpack mods in this pack but you want a Sophisticated Backpacks Backpack.
You can later upgrade it t massive size with a full crafting grid, auto feeding option, magnetic pickup, auto stacking, and void garbage.
It takes a ton of resources to max it out, but it is well worth it.
I currently have a diamond backpack with a full crafting grid, auto feeder, and magnetic pick up.
Learn Tinker's Construct or Silent Gear
Once you get to Iron age, you will want better tools. Tinker's Construct used to be the go to mod for building customized tools. Silent Gear is a newer mod that aims to provide a replacement for Tinker's Construct.
I've been using it in this play through and really like it.
Check out my Paxel (Shovel, Pickaxe, Axe).
This thing blast through caves and even has the ability to put down phantom torches allowing me to mine without carrying torches. It took a bit of obsidian, diamonds, glowstone, and emeralds but wasn't super hard to make. Completely changed the game once I got it.
Another nice thing about it is I can carry a repair kit and easily repair it quite a few times before coming to the surface in just a 2x2 crafting grid. With a good backpack it is a beast.
Apotheosis Mobs
Have you run across named mobs that kill you in 1-2 hits? These are Apotheosis mobs, which are insanely strong but drop amazing gear. If you see a lightning strike at night, there is likely an Apotheosis mob near by.
You can kill these mobs at low level if you are very good at kiting, but they will kill you instantly if you mess up. They have a crap ton of health and armor but they will drop named gear that is well worth the effort.
Learn Mekanism
Mekanism is my favorite mod for ore production. I can setup ore doubling pretty quickly in a new Minecraft world using Mekanism and after a little work be at ore tripling. This is especially easy after you build a quality paxel using Tinker's or Silent Gear. One good mining trip can typically get me what I need for ore doubling.
Mekanism is very complex but there are tons of guides. You should have no problems getting going with it. There are a few players on the server that know it well. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
If you feel these tips are helpful, let me know and I will continue publishing more.
Don't forget to create some cool posts talking about your experience playing Hive Minecraft using the #hiveminecraft and #minecraft tags.
Fun fact, did you know the developer for Mine Colonies (one of my favorite mods) is on Hive?
