Memories Under the Midnight Sun

No matter how beautiful the nature around me is, no matter how many secrets the mountains, swamps and seashores keep, and no matter what wonderful animals are waiting for me on wild trails, sometimes I just stay in the city and don't want to go anywhere, because I'm lazy.

So, sorry friends, today there will be no wonderful discoveries, beautiful places and unusual phenomena, just photos of the night city. Although, of course, I couldn't help but prepare a little surprise. This is not an ordinary night city. This is what our night looks like now at 2 o'clock in the morning (a.m.).

The famous polar day, which I mention so often, has almost reached its peak. If in the beginning the sun still managed to hide behind the hills, for a short period of time and playfully illuminate the clouds from its hiding place, now it has no chance ... or we have no chance.

There is a popular expression that night is a magical time. So it is, and it doesn't matter if the sun shines at night or not. But I can tell you that when it shines, this magic becomes clearly visible. Time just freezes. Everything around is asleep, but it is not hidden in the darkness, but it is visible in the palm of your hand.

Being on a polar day at night on the street, it seems to you that someone has put the world on pause. Empty roads, sleeping houses, no sounds of life, even birds are silent, everyone is lethargic. But at the same time, the sun's face illuminates the earth, and he himself does not understand why life does not boil under its rays.

It is paradoxical, but having lived almost all my life in the far north, I first saw the polar day only at the age of 17, at graduation. Previously, every summer I went to my relatives in the south for a vacation, and I didn't even know that such magic was happening here. And believe me, the polar day is the most wonderful time for young people and girls. The funny thing is that our parents let us go for a walk all night, without fear, despite the fact that the city is empty. I think this confirms the obvious truth that we are afraid of the night only because of the darkness.

I had to jump around the city a little to get a few different angles. But to be honest, I was too absorbed in nostalgia, remembering how I walked these streets with my friends many years ago, in the middle of the night, under the light of the sun.

And I thought that every day in my future life would always be the same sunny and magical. Of course, it turned out not to be so, and we all grew up. But it's nice sometimes to remember yourself careless and believing in miracles…

Thanks for showing the polar day at night, dear Northman. I wondered what it would look like. It does look enchanting with the toned down orange cast. Who’s statue is in the last three photos? All lovely photos, I really like the one of the statue between the building..second one from last and the fifth one down.

This is a monument in memory of the soldiers who died here during the Second World War. His name is Alyosha (Alex). He looks towards the state border.

The North was one of the key areas for the German offensive, so it was hot here. There are a lot of reminders of the war left all over the peninsula, bunkers in the rocks, weapons, household items, I'll tell you about it in a post sometime, probably.

What a beautiful captures with some amazing colours. The sun turns everything golden… orange and red.
Stunning photographs @thenortherner 😁
To imagine parent just let their kids wander around without worry at night. Special memories that some never experience.
