Pets of a True Northerner

in #hive-1967083 years ago

Today I decided to take a little break from the dizzying views of northern nature and interesting stories, and tell about something quite ordinary. Ordinary, but important, for many of us. About a couple of new pets that appeared in our family a week ago.

For some of my regular readers, this may come as a surprise. All my previous harsh posts led us to the fact that when I talk about my pet, it will turn out to be a white bear, or at least a brown bear, in extreme cases, a reindeer.

Unfortunately, I met these cute bear in the picture above very far from home in the south, and we could not be together. Fate decreed otherwise... so let me introduce:

Yes, these are pets of an adult northern man. I was as shocked as yours. Only these two guinea pigs were more shocked. Very young guys, 4 months old. I just came home from work and saw them, and they saw me, sitting on the beautiful lap of my beautiful wife.

I asked only one question to my beloved - "Why?". Well, she told a sad story that after going with our little son for cat food, they heard a noise in the sector with animals, there were three guinea pigs in one aviary. Two of these kids and one huge bully.

The big pig offended the little ones and the wife noticed that the tricolor had a damaged eye. So she decided to save him and buy him back. But the seller said that he and the redhead are brothers and it's better to take both... and here we are. What could I say? They did everything right.

Of course, the same evening I was sent on a pig shopping trip and decided not to skimp on the convenience for piglets. After all, all these rodents do not live so long, and I wanted their life to be comfortable with us.

However, so far it is difficult for me to take these two freeloaders seriously. I don't know anything about them. In a week, I only realized that they constantly eat, pee, poop, and talk funny, all the time. And they also completely lack the instinct of self-preservation.

When you take them in your hands, they do not resist, they just spread out like jelly and humbly look with their beady eyes.

The wife and son are delighted, spend a lot of time with them. Treat the tricolor eye. The veterinarian said that there is a chance to restore it completely in a couple of weeks.

But we have not yet chosen the names of the new family members. The spouse is trying to choose something beautiful and paired. Well, I go through new options every day: Pinky and the Brain, Thor and Loki, Vincent and Jules, Tango and Cash (I like this the most, because there is a chill to prison).

My wit is gradually fading, so for the last two days I have been calling the redhead Bubble, and the one-eyed Plissken. Well, time will tell which name will suit each of them.

Of course, these are very cute animals, sociable, moderately smelly and untidy. Plissken feels bolder, probably because we treat his eye twice a day and he is used to us. The Bubble is more timid and fat. Sometimes when he escapes, he blocks the entrance to the house with his ass and then Plissken starts swearing at him in his funny pig language. If they continue to eat at the same pace, then by winter I will be able to harness them to a sleigh

That was indeed a noble gesture on your family's part. Animals are indeed precious. As a meatless person myself I have a fondness for animals. I am sure you will settle on a name. Good piece and the pictures were on point.

Thank you my friend for kind words! 🙏

Aawww how adorable they are @thenortherner 😊 your wife rescued them… hahaha

To the sleigh 🛷 hahaha do show us pictures hahaha 😉🤣 maybe build a really tiny one 😎

Oh, you got me good with this one; I totally thought you got a pet polar bear! 🙃

Guinea pigs are the natural second choice option of course and these ones are so cute! I love the pictures of them hiding in the little house. Now I want one. (Two)

Now, please also pass on my compliments to your lovely wife on her nails. Beautifully maintained! 💅

Oh yes, the first photo is deliberately misleading, I decided to create an intrigue! 😉

Now, please also pass on my compliments to your lovely wife on her nails. Beautifully maintained!

🤣🤣🤣 you are delightfully wonderful and feminine observant! This is my wife's first manicure after the birth of our son, she does it herself. That day we were able to give her a couple of hours of free time playing with guinea pigs, and she was very happy to add a little beauty to herself. She's flattered that you noticed it. Thank you very much! 😍

Playing with guinea pigs and having manicures sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Haha! I like the names Tango and Cash but I'm sure their nicknames will digress as the days go by. Beavis and Butthead might be the final vote! 🐹💩🐹

Your wife and son have big hearts, as do you! Guinea pigs are cute pets except for the messy cages they make. My friend @deerjay has Guinea pig experience and is very resourceful. Tagged her cause she is sure to enjoy the adorable photos!

Keep us updated! @thenortherner

Oh yes! Thank you too Nina..you know me so well! They look like a couple of lucky little piggies with such a terrific set-up. It is good they are a bonded pair too. I'm so happy that they got a really good and loving home. 💖

Thank you @ninahaskin! Your variant of nicknames is quite suitable. Now these guys have already settled in a little and are starting to bully 😁

except for the messy cages they make

Oh, yes, the true truth. Once we had a chinchilla, her poop was three times smaller 🤣
@deerjay сould you tell us how to teach them to use the toilet? My wife read that guinea pigs get used to going to the toilet in one place in a cage, we even put a separate stall there, but so far they pee and poop everywhere, even in food. The wife collects their poop and puts it in a tray so they can see where they belong. 🤣

Well, that I think is a myth. People will sometimes use a small litter pan with shavings in the bottom and hay on top. I think they idea is that while they are eating the hay, that is where they will do "their business". In reality, they pretty much go wherever and whenever. They can go a lot as I'm sure you are finding out. Most people will spot clean in between regular cleaning. A lot of people also use fleece to to line the cage which you will see in two of the youtube channels I sent.. : Scotty's Animals and The Pig Room. I mostly used a combo of shavings and fleece. Hope that helps! 😊

OMG! Guinea pigs are my most favorite pet!! I lost my piggie Phil just before Christmas and really miss him. Of course I still think about and miss my most favorite one that passed many many moons ago. He is forever in my heart! It sounds like you already named them..lol. Phil had a lot of other names other than his given name which is short for Philadelphia. They are so adorable! 🤗💕

Apparently you are a pro in the matter of these fluffy grunting lumps! 😁
I didn't expect them to be so sociable and pleasant to the touch, I hope they like their new home and we are doing everything right. I think that the real names they will be assigned to them in a month.

I'm sorry for your loss. I think for you, as for many kind people, any pet is a family member, it's hard. It upsets me that the lifespan of guinea pigs is so short, but we will try to make them spend it in happiness 😊

Lol..that is a great characterization "fluffy grunting lumps"! They do make great little pets! I'm sure they will love their new home and they are so cute! There are a couple of youtube channels that may help and I hope you don't mind that I'm sending them to you. I like Scotty's Animals. He also works at Saskia from Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue which is another channel and I just recently started watching The Pig Room. Let me know if you would like the links but they are easy to find. 😉
Yes, they do have a short lifespan. My sister had one that lived almost ten years which is long in guinea pig years. I think the longest I've had one was probably seven years. The breed you have is I believe "Abyssinian". I had a lot of different kinds. Phil was a nipper which is very rare for a guinea pig to do but he also suffered from small seizures if he was over-stimulated. He was sweet still and really loved his treats. I'm happy they got a great home with you and your family! 💖

Hive Power Up Month - Feedback from May - Day 15

I’ve never had a Guinea pig as a pet but they look cute. A delightful little house for them to live in. I’m glad your kind-hearted wife and son brought them home and are treating the eye. 🤗

It’s fun thinking up names for new pets. I was playing around and came up with the name Cornelius because of the eye problem (cornea) ~ or Leif The Lucky. Eric The Red for the one with the red fur.

I have an older cat with red fur that I used to call Little Red but now just Red. :)) Since my other cat died he is lonely but I haven’t settled on getting another pet. Usually a stray will come along and I will take it in and but none of late.

Have a great Friday and enjoy the new pets, Northman.

You definitely have a talent for coming up with names! Eric The Red is very epic, maybe it will add a little missing boldness to the bubble 😂

It's sad that your cat is lonely now, although usually these guys are very self-sufficient. Anyway, you're right. I think it's not worth looking for a pet purposefully, usually they find us themselves when the time comes. The beast god directs them into good hands at the right moment.

Yes, Eric The Red is a strong courageous name. 😊

My cat Red is no doubt bored as he is an inside cat. He has become very demanding. I jokingly say it’s like having a second husband.😆
