It is almost the middle of summer and even in our northern region this year it makes me remember the winter cold with lust and some longing. Restless human nature, always asking for what is not there.
So, in order to calm down my longing for frost a little, and not to call for the rapid return of real cold with my innermost desires, I will try to cool off through photos. It would be fair to turn to the archives of memories from the middle of winter, since we have come to the middle of summer…
It may seem that snow is one of the most unpleasant messengers of winter, delivering continuous inconveniences to living beings and hiding many dangers. In fact, for a true northerner, be it a person, animal or plant, snow is the best friend in winter. And we have this friend in abundance here.
As the Sami say, Mother winter began to wrap the earth with snow in the cold season to protect all living things from the all-pervading and destructive ice. It's like covering us all with a blanket to warm us up a little on these dark and cold nights.
It really is. If we did not have such a thick and fluffy cover on the coldest days, it is unlikely that anything higher than a blade of grass would remain on our land. Animals, like plants, use snow to shelter from frost, some even live under it permanently.
But this effort of the old goddess to protect us goes a little over the line. Probably like the excessive care of a grandmother who dresses her grandchildren too warmly in any weather. And then very bizarre figures are obtained under a thick layer of "foam".
In these snow-covered statues, it is difficult to determine the original shape of the hidden object. Day after day, incessant snowfalls cover the plains, hills and mountains with an infinite number of snowflakes.
Clutching each other, these little pranksters are able to form something so amazing and bizarre that no sculptor has ever dreamed of. Wandering through this gallery, you are afraid to accidentally touch the exhibit, so as not to destroy the natural creation.
Another magical property of snow is its color. You will say that white is the most boring color on the planet, but let me disagree with you. It has one remarkable property - it perfectly "absorbs" (but actually reflects) all other colors.
And in just a fraction of seconds, a monotonous landscape in its colors can turn into a cast of the sunset sky.
The ability to reflect light also dispels the darkness that comes to us for almost two months. Capturing and reflecting the meager light of the stars and the moon, the snow cover allows us not to drown in an endless ocean of darkness, making our world at least a little brighter.
And sometimes, with the return of the sun, you can find yourself in a sterile world that isolates you from any noise, and not just allows you to distract from everyday thoughts, but does not even distract your attention with its presence, transferring you from the essences of space and time to some other world ... cold, but at the same time comfortable.
