Hace bastante tiempo que no hacía una review o daba mi opinión acerca de una película o serie, y no es porque estuve inactivo en Hive o algo parecido, en realidad, desde que estaba en Bogotá (especialmente cuando comencé a jugar Albion) no dediqué tiempo a ver alguna serie o película porque sencillamente el tiempo no me daba y prefería dedicárselo todo a los videojuegos o haciendo cosas en mi vida cotidiana.

Desde hace un mes comencé a ver muchos anuncios y videos relacionados al Gato con Botas: El Último Deseo, una película del universo de DreamWorks que hasta ahora ha sido aclamada en cada página u opinión que he visto en todo lugar.

En este post quiero hablarles de mi opinión viendo esta película y de cómo fácilmente puedo considerarla una de las películas animadas mejor hechas hasta la fecha, aunque debo admitir que no mejor que toda mi saga preferida: Kung Fu Panda.

El comienzo de esta película fue espléndido en todo sentido posible. Sé que es complicado juzgar a un libro por su portada, pero para mí es imposible no dejarme llevara por el principio de una película o serie para comenzar a juzgarla.

El Gato con Botas comienza de una forma bastante entretenida y activa desde el comienzo de lo que parece ser una fiesta. Hasta ahora, lo que más me ha impresionado fue la sencilla, pero al mismo tiempo, increíble banda sonora de este comienzo. "¿Quién es tu héroe favorito?" a pesar de ni siquiera tener una letra profunda o algo similar, la cantidad de buenas vibras que te da esta canción me hizo sentir demasiado animado a ver la película de pies a cabeza.

Y por si fuera poco, en el comienzo ya pudimos ver al primer villano de la película: Un gigante. No tomé screenshots de este gigante porque se me hizo algo complicado al tener una animación algo diferente en todos los frames donde aparecía, pues, parecía estar animado al estilo de Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

Para mi sorpresa, el director de ambas películas es totalmente diferente, y esto me alegra bastante porque significa que este estilo de animación se está empezando a usar un poco más. En lo personal, me encanta este estilo de animación donde los personajes no están yendo a 60 FPS, y que en Puss in Boots hayan usado esto como recurso y no como animación principal en toda la película me parece un acierto aún más increíble.

Siguiendo con la trama: Todo a su debido tiempo.

No hay que ser alguien bastante paciente para esperar que el desarrollo de la película empiece a llamar la atención, en realidad, toda la película se mantiene bastante curiosa y llamativa en todo momento (incluso cuando nuestro protagonista tiene su momento de redención).

Todo el aprendizaje de la película comienza cuando el gato con botas pierde su penúltima vida y comienza a cuestionarse de vivir al máximo arriesgándose a perderla en cualquier momento en una de sus aventuras o simplemente vivir seguro esperando a que la muerte llegue en algún punto.

Y hablando de la muerte..

Para mí, el personaje más destacable de toda la película: La muerte.

Esta es una inclusión nueva al mundo de DreamWorks, pues significa que existe la muerte personificada. Un personaje que solamente aparece ante las personas más arrogantes que cuestionan la probabilidad de muerte en algún punto y son capaces de reír ante la muerte.

Es por eso que la personificación de la muerte, en este caso, un lobo, aparece ante gato; buscando acabar con su última vida ya que en todas las anteriores ha decidido tomar por el pelo a la muerte ya que la ha burlado en sus 8 vidas pasadas.. o eso creía él.

En toda la película la muerte es la representación del miedo ante el protagonista, y lo que causa un gran desarrollo dentro de este.

Al ser una figura imparable y al mismo tiempo invencible, el gato con botas lentamente nota su incapacidad de hacer algo ante la muerte y también comienza a reflexionar acerca de la capacidad de vida infinita a medida que avanza la película; pues, el objetivo principal del gato con botas era adquirir sus 8 vidas pasadas de vuelta para así seguir con sus aventuras sin preocupación alguna.

La muerte está aquí para darle una enseñanza a nuestro protagonista.

Este personaje más que ser un villano fue el antagonista principal del gato con botas. No es una figura malévola o con intenciones destructivas, solamente está allí para cumplir una misión debido a la circunstancias ya mencionadas.

Este automáticamente se convirtió en uno de mis personajes favoritos preferidos al ser tan cuidadosamente pulido en todos los detalles posibles. Yo vi la película en español, y tengo que admitir que la calidad del doblaje al español en TODOS los personajes dentro de la película es simplemente increíble; incluso ricitos de oso y sus osos tuvieron un acento bastante fuera de lo común: Acento argentino, y aún así estuvo ASOMBROSO el acierto con el acento para estos personajes.

Aplaudo enormemente la calidad y lo que han representado con La Muerte. Ha causado el miedo en el protagonista y para el espectador, es sin duda alguna una figura imponente que ha valido totalmente la pena ver en pantalla.

La mitad de la película se trata de alcanzar la estrella que causará el deseo a cualquiera que llegue primero y haga la invocación. Ricitos de oro, Jack Horner (quien es el villano principal) y también el gato con botas junto a sus amigos también están en busca de la misma misión.

Me sorprendió lo indirectamente crudo que es este personaje. Jack Horner solo estaba preocupado por sus intereses e incluso teniendo a la conciencia de Pinocho (Pepe Grillo) a su lado, demostró lo insensible e indiferente que era con las otras personas.

En mi opinión, me repugnó un poco todo el diseño del peronaje en general, aunque supongo que esta era la idea principal que tenían para este personaje.

Las distintas amistades que obtuvo el gato con botas a lo largo de la película también colaboraron al desarrollo de personaje que tuvo.

Algo bastante interesante es la importancia que tuvo perrito después de todo, pues, es irónico como a pesar de la aparente "inutilidad" que tiene y cómo constantemente se pone en pelgiro, ha llegado a tener impacto importante en la vida de los que lo rodean (incluyendo los secuestradores que lo amenazaban).

Por ahí leí una teoría que hablaba acerca de perrito como la representación de la vida mientras que la muerte era un lobo. Ambos caninos. Esta teoría se basa en la cantidad de situaciones complicadas en la que perrito se ha visto envuelto y ha logrado sobrevivir a todas y cada una de ellas, también contribuyendo de forma positiva en la vida de los demás.

Otra escena que es digna de mencionar es cuando el gato habla con todas sus vidas pasadas.

No me quedó del todo claro si directamente eran las vidas pasadas del gato con botas o simplemente se trataban de versiones ligeramente modificadas que tenían como intención ayudarlo a tomar malas decisiones. De una u otra forma, es un muy buen punto de comparación para ir notando la reflexión que está tomando el gato y también el cómo está cambiando totalmente el personaje.

Y en esta escena es donde también La Muerte hace una de las mejores apariciones y deja enmarcadas una de las citas más increíbles y terroríficas en toda la película:

• No hablo metafórica, ni retórica, ni poética, ni teóricamente, ni de ninguna otra forma, elegante. Soy la muerte, sin máscara.

En el clímax de la película todos los bandos comienzan una pelea entre sí para obtener el deseo. A lo largo de la película solo 3 bandos (de 4) terminaron entendiendo que el deseo personal que tenían podía obtenerse sin necesidad de magia alguna, y esto lo van aprendiendo a lo largo de la película.

Para ricitos de oro, tener una familia perfecta fue cumplido gracias a esta aventura. Para Kitty Patitas Suaves, el deseo de confiar totalmente en alguien por la eternidad también se le fue cumplido; y para el gato con botas, aprender a valorar su última vida sin necesidad de recuperar las anteriores.

Una vez comprendido este punto solo quedaba el villano de la película: Jack Horner, siendo derrotado por las fuerzas unidas de todos los bandos que posteriormente también destruyeron el deseo.

En esta escena tenemos la última aparición de Lobo, quien se enfrentó a un Gato con Botas totalmente diferente. Al tener una mejor noción de la vida y haber aprendido a valorar su última vida, decidió enfrentar a La Muerte para defender su útima vida a como de lugar; cosa que detuvo a La Muerte ya que el motivo por el que había comenzado su cacería ya había desaparecido.

Dejándonos con un final totalmente cerrado y con ninguna conclusión o suposición acerca del por qué ocurrieron las cosas.

En la gran mayoría de películas animadas que he visto no he sentido más cosa que haberla disfrutado sin más. El Gato con Botas: El Último Deseo me recordó a cuando era un niño y podía disfrutar tanto una película como para ponerme a los pies del personaje principal y también de compartir sentimientos a lo largo de la película.

Soy alguien extremadamente sensible con series y películas por mi empatía, y haber sentido tanto con esta me hizo disfrutarla muchísimo más. En mi opinión, no hay nada que criticarle, es una película que a ciegas puedo recomendarle a cualquier persona y asegurarle que tendrá una película totalmente increíble.

Además: Tenemos una gigantezca referencia a una próxima secuela, ¿qué más podríamos pedir?

Gracias 2022, por habernos entregado una joya tan increíble como esta. Mi error no haberla visto en cines, pero logré disfrutarla tanto como fue posible viéndola en solitario desde casa.

Y como siempre, muchísimas gracias por leer todo esto. ¿Cuándo volveré a ver una serie o película? Nadie sabe, pero espero que me den muchas más ganas porque extrañaba escribir acerca de cosas de este estilo haha.

It's been a while since I did a review or gave my opinion about a movie or series, and it's not because I was inactive in Hive or something like that, actually, since I was in Bogota (especially when I started playing Albion) I didn't dedicate time to watch any series or movie because I simply didn't have the time and I preferred to dedicate it all to video games or doing things in my daily life.

Since a month ago I started to watch a lot of ads and videos related to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, a movie from the DreamWorks universe that so far has been acclaimed in every page or opinion I've seen everywhere.

In this post I want to tell you about my opinion watching this movie and how I can easily consider it one of the best made animated movies to date, although I must admit that not better than all my favorite saga: Kung Fu Panda.

The beginning of this movie was splendid in every possible way. I know it's hard to judge a book by its cover, but for me it's impossible not to get carried away by the beginning of a movie or series to start judging it.

Puss in Boots starts off quite entertaining and active from the beginning of what appears to be a party. So far, what has impressed me the most was the simple, but at the same time, incredible soundtrack to this beginning. "Who's Your Favorite Hero?" despite not even having deep lyrics or anything similar, the amount of good vibes this song gives you made me feel too pumped to watch the movie through and through.

And if that wasn't enough, at the beginning we could already see the first villain of the movie: a giant. I didn't take screenshots of this giant because it was a bit complicated for me as it had a somewhat different animation in all the frames where he appeared, as it seemed to be animated in the style of Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

To my surprise, the director of both movies is totally different, and this makes me quite happy because it means that this style of animation is starting to be used a little more. Personally, I love this style of animation where the characters aren't going at 60 FPS, and that Puss in Boots used this as a resource and not as the main animation throughout the film seems like an even more incredible move to me.

Moving on to the plot: all in good time.

You don't have to be someone quite patient to wait for the film's development to start grabbing your attention, in fact, the whole film remains quite curious and attention-grabbing throughout (even when our protagonist has his moment of redemption).

All the learning in the film begins when Puss in Boots loses his penultimate life and begins to question whether to live to the fullest by risking losing it at any moment in one of his adventures or just live safely waiting for death to come at some point.

And speaking of death...

For me, the most remarkable character in the whole movie: Death.

This is a new inclusion to the DreamWorks world, as it means that death personified exists. A character that only appears before the most arrogant people who question the probability of death at some point and are able to laugh in the face of death.

That is why the personification of death, in this case, a wolf, appears before cat; looking to end his last life since in all his previous ones he has decided to take death for a ride since he has mocked it in his 8 past lives... or so he thought.

Throughout the film, death is the representation of fear before the protagonist, and what causes a great development within him.

Being an unstoppable and at the same time invincible figure, Puss in Boots slowly notices his inability to do anything in the face of death and also begins to reflect on the capacity of infinite life as the film progresses; for, the main objective of Puss in Boots was to acquire his 8 past lives back in order to continue his adventures without any worries.

Death is here to teach our protagonist a lesson.

This character rather than being a villain was the main antagonist of Puss in Boots. He is not a malevolent figure or with destructive intentions, he is only there to fulfill a mission due to the aforementioned circumstances.

This automatically became one of my favorite characters because he was so carefully polished in every possible detail. I saw the movie in Spanish, and I have to admit that the quality of the Spanish dubbing on ALL the characters in the movie is simply amazing; even curly bear and his bears had a rather unusual accent: Argentinean accent, and yet it was AMAZING to get the accent right for these characters.

I greatly applaud the quality and what they portrayed with La Muerte. He has caused fear in the protagonist and for the viewer, he is without a doubt an imposing figure that was totally worth seeing on screen.

Half of the movie is about reaching the star that will cause the wish to whoever gets there first and does the summoning. Goldilocks, Jack Horner (who is the main villain) and also Puss in Boots along with his friends are also in search of the same mission.

I was surprised at how indirectly crude this character is. Jack Horner was only concerned about his interests and even having Pinocchio's conscience (Jiminy Cricket) by his side, he showed how insensitive and indifferent he was to other people.

In my opinion, I was a bit repulsed by the whole design of the peronage in general, although I guess this was the main idea they had for this character.

The different friendships that Puss in Boots made throughout the film also contributed to his character development.

Something quite interesting is the importance that Perrito had after all, because, it is ironic how despite the apparent "uselessness" he has and how he constantly puts himself in danger, he has come to have an important impact on the lives of those around him (including the kidnappers who threatened him).

I read a theory somewhere that talked about doggy being the representation of life while death was a wolf. Both canines. This theory is based on the number of complicated situations in which Perrito has been involved and has managed to survive each and every one of them, also contributing positively in the lives of others.

Another scene that is worth mentioning is when the cat talks to all his past lives.

It was not entirely clear to me if they were directly the past lives of Puss in Boots or simply slightly modified versions intended to help him make bad decisions. One way or the other, it is a very good point of comparison to go noticing the reflection that the cat is taking and also how the character is totally changing.

And in this scene is also where Death makes one of the best appearances and leaves framed one of the most incredible and terrifying quotes in the whole movie:

• I don't mean it metaphorically, or rhetorically, or poetically, or theoretically, or any other fancy way. I'm Death, straight up.

At the climax of the movie, all sides start fighting each other to obtain the wish. Throughout the movie only 3 sides (out of 4) ended up understanding that the personal wish they had could be obtained without any magic, and they learn this throughout the movie.

For Goldilocks, having a perfect family was fulfilled thanks to this adventure. For Kitty Soft Paws, the desire to totally trust someone for eternity was also fulfilled; and for Puss in Boots, learning to value his last life without the need to recover the previous ones.

Once this point was understood, only the villain of the film remained: Jack Horner, who was defeated by the united forces of all sides that later also destroyed the wish..

In this scene we have the last appearance of Lobo, who faced a totally different Puss in Boots. Having a better notion of life and having learned to value his last life, he decided to face Death to defend his last life at any cost; thing that stopped Death since the reason for which he had started his hunt had already disappeared.

Leaving us with a totally closed ending and with no conclusion or supposition about why things happened.

In the vast majority of animated films I have seen I have felt nothing more than to have just enjoyed it. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish reminded me of when I was a kid and could enjoy a movie enough to get on the feet of the main character and also to share feelings throughout the movie.

I am someone who is extremely sensitive to series and movies because of my empathy, and having felt so much with this one made me enjoy it that much more. In my opinion, there is nothing to criticize it, it's a movie that I can blindly recommend to anyone and assure them that they will have a totally awesome movie.

Plus: We have a gigantic reference to an upcoming sequel, what more could we ask for?
