It's worth mentioning that this post will be PLENTY of spoilers for the OPM manga as much of the main focus of this post will be about the artwork and some facts that I've found relevant to the plot throughout my reading. I recommend you avoid reading the post if you're considering watching OPM, but if you simply want to feast your eyes on amazing drawings without caring about spoilers, feel free to make yourself at home.

Did you think that in the end I would not participate? Well no, hehe. I don't know why I decided to leave this post for as late as possible, it's not even that I forgot to participate or something like that, every day I remembered this amazing competition from Hive Book Club, but it became easier and better option to create more content about things I feel more "comfortable" with (yes, I'm talking about you TFT).

But anyway, today I'm going to talk about OPM! More specifically about the manga and my whole general opinion and experience reading one of the most original manga I've read to date. Join me in this little post :)

Where to start?

One Punch Man is a manga that has been around for many years. Basically it is about a person named Saitama, who thanks to an arduous training managed to break the limitations of the human being, and break what is called the "limiter", causing him to have reached immeasurable levels of strength and ability... literally. Saitama is a character that was created to destroy the definition of a current "hero", he is simply there to destroy everything that gets in his way.

And you may think: What's so interesting about this??

Well, TOO MUCH, but we'll take it one step at a time.

One Punch Man focuses on presenting us with an immutable figure that could never be affected, a protagonist who is simply invincible from the beginning of the manga and can never be challenged in any way. This is a resource that can work as a double-edged sword because it indirectly takes away the protagonist's protagonism, but as a writer and artist it allows you to focus on other resources.

One of these resources is the feeling of freedom in terms of what you are creating. There's no need to give the protagonist the main character when every moment he has already gives him enough prominence, imagine being able to create a manga where you can have as much action as you want without the need to give that focus of progression to the protagonist: Explain how from one moment to another your protagonist became too strong, or simply show scenes of constant training that makes him reach the necessary power-ups to keep facing constant adversities. In OPM there is none of this.

In OPM there are a lot of supporting characters who are basically the main characters of this whole manga. As the manga progresses, we get to know them in much more depth and it also gives a sense of familiarity to the manga. No matter how omnipotent Saitama is, the real protagonist is the rest of the characters... and this is the main value of this manga.

The art

Remember I said that the author can also focus on other things? Well, and this is where I give a standing ovation to the work of Yusuke Murata, the artist of the One Punch Man manga: This man's drawing is simply art.

I'm someone who tries to picture the whole scene as if it were happening in animated form, give it details in my head and imagine how epic it would look in animated form: And it's simply amazing how Murata manages to create artwork so incredible that you don't even need to see it animated, EVEN IN COLOR, to feel like that moment is being truly insane.

Because of this, I feel obliged to show you a bunch of panels where the art is just... another level.

I don't think I need to explain further why the drawing style in OPM is just... superior.

I don't mean to say that there are no manga with such incredible panels, but Murata's consistency in creating panels of this style is unparalleled, and it just speaks to how talented a person can be. The limits are set by yourself, and true creativity is something that easily moves boundaries.

This is easily what has made me love OPM with every fiber of my being. It feels like you're watching the anime directly, Murata made the job easy for the animators XD.

The importance of secondary characters

And quite simply, without this, OPM wouldn't be a quarter of what it is today. As I mentioned before, it doesn't make much sense to watch a manga where you know the main character is invincible, right? That's why the supporting characters literally take all the limelight in this manga. They are all built to make you empathize with them much more than with the protagonist, and ironically it's easier to learn the secrets of all these characters than of the protagonist himself (due to the unfamiliarity of their nature).

This is why easily my favorite character is Garou, and popular opinion indicates the same. He is simply the character that has received the most development throughout the manga, and all the constant fights and evolutions have been the construction of many years of manga and drawing: Seeing the fruits of the final labors of it all was extremely satisfying. The progression of the whole story behind the OPM universe is incredible.

And that would be it! To be honest, I can very easily say that One Punch Man is currently my favorite manga, and it will be until I finish it. I have a long time since the last time I started reading a new manga, nothing has caught my attention enough to make me fall in love with it, and OPM has my full attention I must admit haha.

Cabe mencionar que este post estará REPLETO de spoilers del manga de OPM ya que gran parte del enfoque principal de este post se tratará del apartado artístico y algunos datos que me han parecido relevantes a la trama a lo largo de mi lectura. No sé por qué decidí dejar este post para lo más tarde posible, ni siquiera es que se me olvidó participar o algo por el estilo, diariamente recordaba esta increíble competencia de Hive Book Club y se me hacía más fácil y mejor opción crear más contenido acerca de cosas con las que me siento más "cómodo" (sí, estoy hablando de ti TFT).

Pero sea como sea, ¡hoy les hablaré de OPM! Más específicamente del manga y de toda mi opinión general y mi experiencia leyendo uno de los mangas más originales que he leído hasta la fecha. Acompáñame en este pequeño post :)

¿Por dónde empezar?

One Punch Man es un manga que lleva muchos años desde que salió. Básicamente se trata de una persona llamada Saitama, quien gracias a un ardúo entrenamiento logró romper las limitantes del ser humano, y romper lo que se denomina el "limitador", haciendo que haya alcanzado niveles de fuerza y habilidad inmensurables.. literalmente. Saitama es un personaje que fue creado para destruir la definición de un "héroe" actual, simplemente está allí para acabar con todo lo que se atraviese en su camino.

Y podrás pensar: ¿Y qué tiene de interesante esto?

Pues, DEMASIADO, pero iremos poco a poco.

One Punch Man se enfoca en presentarnos una figura inmutable que jamás podría verse afectada, un protagonista que simplemente es invencible desde el comienzo del manga y jamás podrá ser retado de ninguna forma. Esto es un recurso que puede funcionar como arma de doblefilo porque indirectamente le quita protagonismo a nuestro protagonista, pero como escritor y artista te permite enfocarte en otros recursos.

Uno de todos estos recursos es el sentimiento de libertad en cuanto a lo que estás creando. No hace falta tener que darle protagonismo al protagonista cuando cada momento que tiene ya da el suficiente protagonismo, imagínate poder crear un manga donde puedes tener tanta acción como quieras sin necesidad de darle ese enfoque de progresión al protagonista: Explicar cómo de un momento a otro tu protagonista se hizo demasiado fuerte, o simplemente mostrar escenas de entrenamiento constantes que lo hace alcanzar los power-ups necesarios para seguir enfrentando las constantes adversidades. En OPM no hay nada de esto.

En OPM hay un montón de personajes secundarios que son básicamente los protagonistas de todo este manga. Mientras más avanza el manga, vamos conociendo con muchísima más profundidad a estos y también le da un sentimiento de familiarización al manga. No importa qué tan omnipotente sea Saitama, el verdadero protagonismo se lo llevan el resto de personajes.. y este es el principal valor de este manga.

El arte

¿Recuerdan que dije que el autor también se puede enfocar en otras cosas? Bueno, y es aquí donde aplaudo de pie el trabajo de Yusuke Murata, el artista del manga de One Punch Man: El dibujo de este hombre es simplemente arte.

Soy alguien que intenta imaginarse toda la escena como si estuviera ocurriendo de forma animada, darle detalles en mi cabeza e imaginarme lo épico que se vería de forma animada: Y es simplemente asombroso como Murata logra crear obras de artes tan increíbles que ni siquiera hace falta verlas animadas, NI SIQUIERA A COLOR, para sentir que ese momento está siendo una auténtica locura.

Debido a esto, me veo en la obligación de mostrarles un montón de paneles donde el arte es simplemente.. otro nivel.

Creo que no tengo que explicar más a profundidad el por qué el estilo de dibujo en OPM es simplemente.. superior.

No quiero decir que no existan mangas con paneles tan increíbles, pero la constancia que tiene Murata para crear paneles de este estilo es incomparable, y solamente habla de lo talentosa que puede llegar a ser una persona. Los límites los pones tú mismo, y la creatividad de verdad es algo que fácilmente mueve fronteras.

Esto es, fácilmente, lo que me ha hecho amar OPM con cada fibra de mi ser. Se siente como si estás viendo directamente el anime, Murata les hizo el trabajo fácil a los animadores XD.

La importancia de los personajes secundarios

Y sencillamente, sin esto OPM no sería ni la cuarta parte de lo que es actualmente. Como ya les había mencionado, no tiene tanto sentido ver un manga donde sabes que el protagonista es invencible, ¿cierto? Es por esto que los personajes secundarios se llevan, literalmente, todo el protagonismo de este manga. Todos están construidos para que empatices con ellos mucho más que con el protagonista, e irónicamente es más fácil conocer los secretos de todos estos personajes que del propio protagonista en sí (debido al desconocimiento de su naturaleza).

Por esto es que fácilmente mi personaje favorito es Garou, y la opinión popular indica lo mismo. Es sencillamente el personaje que más desarrollo ha recibido a lo largo del manga, y todas las constantes peleas y evoluciones han sido construcción de muchos años de manga y dibujo: Ver los frutos de los trabajos finales de todo esto fue extremadamente satisfactorio. La progresión de toda la historia detrás del universo de OPM es increíble.

¡Y eso sería todo! La verdad, muy fácilmente puedo decir que One Punch Man es actualmente mi manga favorito, y así lo será hasta que lo termine. Tengo muchísimo tiempo desde la última vez que comencé a leer un manga nuevo, nada ha llamado mi atención lo suficiente como para enamorarme, y OPM tiene toda mi atención debo admitirlo haha.
