Pitões das Júnias) a small village with at least 150 inhabitants located in Parque da Peneda Gerês, known for being one of the highest villages in the north of Portugal at around 1200M altitude.
Its main source of sustenance is agriculture as there is not much else around with little supply and such altitude begins to drastically reduce the population that remains there as they also approach a certain age, younger people flee to the big cities leaving this isolated magical village. .
Recently, tourism has brought a breath of fresh air, with some progress being made in the recovery of vacant houses and in restaurant ventures.

Land for grazing goats and cows makes this isolated place a strong natural attraction, especially in winter as it is one of the few villages where it snows nearby, also caused by its altitude.

Arrival is always a mix of emotions especially for those who are not at all used to driving in the snow, it is quite slippery and I have rear-wheel drive so I had a few scares, in the area where I live it doesn't snow so I'm not that sensitive to that. type of climatic conditions.

From Porto “where I live” to there it takes about 2h30 without stopping, but walking slowly and enjoying the landscape in its entirety.
We woke up very early and hit the road, wearing warmer clothes, an extra pair of socks and more suitable shoes, although I only wear sneakers to drive.
And so our trip went without any major initial setbacks, with the map saying we would arrive around 11:30 am, but it dropped to very close to 1 pm, as I got lost on the way.

It was raining very close to the place, which in addition to taking some preventative measures when driving and already being a little late, caused the rain to start to melt.

Despite everything, it was still enough for us to see the magic of the snow in the houses, the cold hung in the air in addition to that feeling of “breathing less” and the smoke that came out of our mouths like a smoking chimney

The typical houses are made of granite stone typical of the Peneda Gerês region, which is also a few km from Spain.
Its clay roofs with snow make it a magical environment for all visitors, delighting children and adults alike. Many games can be played, from dolls throwing snow.
the village is quite small but the views are breathtaking

The white-filled cultivation areas barely fit due to their height, making the terrain incredibly beautiful. everything around in harmony as if the silence over the cold breath of breath and breeze produced a single sound

Around the surrounding imposing mountains loaded with snow completely covering the rocks and the fog beneath them make the place imposing and enchanting.

every detail fills our soul and takes away the stress we experience daily, thus becoming a magical journey that only brings us peace and inner harmony.
