Vestrahorn, also known as Stokksnes, is a mountain in Iceland well known by photographers for it's distinguished shapes. From the right angle, and by making use of the reflecting black beach, it looks like a solitude mountain in the middle of no where.
It's located in the south-eastern part of Iceland near the town called Höfn. To reach the beach from where these photos are made from, you have to enter a private property. And since the place became very popular by tourists, the owner asks a small fee to enter the area.
I've visited the place several times to capture it with different weather conditions, like rain, fog, snow and night (northern lights). It's a photographers playground. There are so many options. That also makes it a bit tricky, since there are many challenges there too. Like strong winds, footprints of other photographers, and a lot of distracting foreground elements. Also, this place is huge! Even with a 16mm wide angle lens you'll find yourself struggling to get the whole scene in frame.
I'll be visiting Iceland soon again, and will definitely visit this place again. Looking forward to what this place has to offer this time.
Hoop you enjoy the images.
Cheers,
Thijs
