I feel that in many occasions at school our children's creativity is limited, that they are accustomed not to think but to act in a mechanical way, that is to say that every answer they give is the expected one or what is considered normal and accepted. In this sense, my wife and I try to make our children follow the school's schedule of activities, but we also look for ways and strategies so that they can have a broad creative thinking.
Encouraging creativity implies giving them the possibility from an early age to have options for problem solving, that they are able to do things that inspire them, with which they feel good and can be happy. In the midst of our search we discovered that writing provides tools for the development of creative thinking, there is even a type of exercise that is creative writing that can be used with children from an early age. In this case, we used the creative writing strategy with Diego, the activity was to write a poem about whatever he wanted.

Steps for the development of creative writing:

2.- Allow the child to express the themes or topic he/she would like to write about. In this step we can give them some clues by mentioning their preferences so that they can select what they like. In Diego's case it was Dinosaurs, well he is at the stage where he loves dinosaurs. 3.- In creative writing we let the child feel comfortable writing the words that come to his mind and that he himself manages to give shape and meaning to his writing. In this case, we let them use pencils, colors, pens and even markers to do their work, so that it is not something boring, but rather something fun where their brain can be activated. 4.- Allow them to draw pictures, color the paper or use collage to make their story come to life. 5.- To have fun. In the activities where the development of creativity is sought, the steps of the process must be shown in a pleasant, fun way. We must make the child feel that doing the things that come to his mind, that imagining and creating is a moment that he can enjoy greatly. 6.- Finally, show their work and value it. Many times as parents, perhaps because of the speed with which the days go by, we leave aside the small achievements of our children, this is not good at all. We should always recognize and value their effort, dedication, enthusiasm and creativity to do things, only then they will be able to develop their own value and love for the things they do. I hope you enjoyed the reading and that my experience can help you. Being a parent is not an easy task but it is undoubtedly the most beautiful experience that can exist.
