Giraffe on Australian Coin

It is not forbidden or commanded what image can or may be on investment coins. So the Royal Australian Mint can put virtually anything on it. Still, the giraffe surprised me. Australia is home to a number of endemic species. But the giraffe doesn't really live there.

But that's what attracted me to the coin and I bought it. Then I started studying it. The Mint issues the Australia Zoo series among many other series. This is the fifth coin in that series.

I guess the Australian Silvergolstacker public is asking for something exotic. There's already been a Sumatran elephant, a southern white rhino, a Sumatran tiger, a cheetah. And now the giraffe. From 2020 to 2024.

By the same logic, penguins could appear on Canadian coins, for example. The Usurian tiger on French coins. Does France even mint silver ounce coins for collectors?

But why not? Silver it is, ounces too. Nominal value 1 NZD. 25,000 pieces were minted. The obverse side conventionally depicts King Charles III.

😀Žirafa na australské minci😀
Není zakázáno ani přikázáno, jaký obraz může nebo smí být na investičních mincích. Královská australská mincovna na ně tedy může umístit prakticky cokoli. Přesto mě žirafa překvapila. Austrálie je domovem řady endemických druhů. Ale žirafa tam skzečně nežije.

Ale právě to mě na minci zaujalo a koupil jsem si ji. Pak jsem ji začal studovat. Mincovna vydává kromě mnoha jiných sérií i sérii Australská zoo. Toto je pátá mince z této série.

Asi si australská veřejnost Silvergolstackerů žádá nějakou exotiku. Už se objevil slon sumaterský, nosorožec bílý jižní, tygr sumaterský, gepard ... A teď žirafa. Od roku 2020 do roku 2024.

Podle stejné logiky by se tučňáci mohli objevit například na kanadských mincích. Usurijský tygr na francouzských mincích. Razí Francie vůbec stříbrné uncové mince pro sběratele?

Ale proč vlastně ne. Stříbro to je, unce také. Nominální hodnota 1 NZD. Bylo vyraženo 25.000 kusů. Na averzní straně je konvenčně zobrazen král Karel III.

The giraffe does seem like an unexpected choice for an Australian coin, @trautenberk, but it's great that it caught your eye! It’s fascinating how such unique designs can introduce us to new stories and series we might not have known about otherwise.
The Australia Zoo series sounds really interesting!
Amazingly, the giraffe coin is just one part of a broader effort to highlight different animals. Collecting coins can definitely lead to some interesting discoveries, can't it? Have you collected any other coins from the Australia Zoo series?
