Music - What is your favorite song? Why do you like it? How does it make you feel? Questions from QC contest 30
There are so many songs, and yet so few that mean anything to me at all. I only like a dozen or so, and they are all eqyally favourites. Here's one that means something to me. It's the soundtrack, I think, for a movie called City of Lost Children which I have never seen.
Marianne Faithfull: Who Will Take My Dreams Away
Why do I like it? It's not a happy song, nor cheerful, but the lyrics feel so real. The music is eerie. And her voice, her voice, what can I do but say
It's raspy, it's resonant, it's full of pleasure waiting to be let out, and it's making me fall in love all over again. Hey Mrs Faithfull, can I marry your voice? Nothing wrong with your body, but I want only this one thing...
What was the other question? Aha, how does this song make me feel?
Lonely and loved and abandonded and safe and sad. Full of unfulfilled promises. And able to fulfill them all!
I've been in love with Marianne Faithfull's voice since I first heard her song Working Class Hero many years ago. But, being a girl myself, I soon learned that I was expected to answer Bob Dylan or at least Pink Floyd whan asked for any idols. So I quit liking music at all. It's just noise, right? Recently I've been shown that there's more than "noise" to all that noise. And I remembered that there was "noise" I used to like.
