Hello hivers or as I like to tag us, bees.
Welcome to my blog and thanks for stopping by. Today, I will be talking about something that has affected our reading culture or has it helped our reading cultures?

Have you ever wondered about this topic?
I guess we all have because, at one point or another, we must have been stuck in a situation either to wait for the movie or just read the book.

For instance Romeo and Juliet. This book was first published in 1597 and then the movie was released in 1996.

The situation right now is that those in literature or not will have the opportunity to choose between the book or watching the movie which those back then didn't have such an option.

Although things are introduced in life for comfort but let's have a little discussion what are the disadvantages and benefits of this. Should I read the book or just wait for the movie?

My Experience with this topic...

Before we talk more about this, I just want to share my own experience with this movie vs book war.

When I was growing up, I was so obsessed and freaked about Greek myths well you can now understand where my username came from. I was so obsessed with ancient Greece stories especially Geek gods Zeus and the rest (my favorite was Poseidon). Let's not divert too far from the topic well I met someone in my secondary school that was also a fan of this and he gave me some ebooks to read. These books were on Percy Jackson (Poseidon's son a demi-god) so after reading a lot of the series and having made imaginations in my head, the makers then decided to release a movie on "Percy Jackson Sea Of Monsters". I was so excited because I couldn’t wait to see my favorite characters come to life.

To me, the plot was nice and goes with the book but the fact that I have read and pictured most of the characters and scenes in my head and it not being the same as the movie portrayed, spoilt everything for me and I ended up regretting seeing the movie.

Below are some things we will briefly discuss.
Okay let's check

  • Books over movies

  • Movies over books

  • A balance between both

  • Books over movies...
It's no secret that books are slowly losing its importance to movies but here are some of the advantages of sticking to books.

Reading a book helps put ideas, pictures, and characters in ones' head that you have no factors except for the description found in the book. After reading a really good book, you are bound to have such a clear picture of how the characters look like, what they were feeling at various points, and so much more. It would put you in the plot and in the characters shoes because you have access to details.

The mental awakening that comes from reading a book is much because you are exposed to new vocabularies. It also helps in keeping the brain engaged due to the fact that you are imagining the story in your head as you read.

Movies tend to rush because of budget amongst others therefore cutting out some scenes. But you see books, the authors have all the time in the world and to them, detailing is important. So that’s why they write in details no matter how lengthy the book might be if it’s not detailed, then it’s trash.

Now let’s check out movies.

  • Movies over books

I’m not saying movies are bad or anything oo. Well I have over 200 on my hard disk waiting to be watched,I have a lot on my phone, I have my Netflix account so you can see that I am a big fan of movies.

Movies are also stress relievers yes. Just picture having come back home from work after a very hectic day and then you have your bathe then off to the couch switch on your TV and connect to your Netflix (that’s a perfect way to end the day). You won’t realize how fast you will sleep off cause you are relieved.
Although I won’t advice horror movies for this.

They help socially. Imagine having a group assignment to do a review on a drama or something, then you all just fix a date to go see the movie. Trust me, if you haven’t been close, your bonds will grow stronger. I can’t remember how many friends I have met just because I’m a lover of movie. We see, exchange movies and gist about the ones we’ve seen.

Movies help when you are in a rush and you need to have an idea of what the book is talking about. Since they are short and precise, they can be said to be the book’s summary.

Looking for a balance,

If it comes to building your mental engagement, recreational purposes, doing a good review, understanding the depth of the plot and so on, I will advise you stick to books but if it’s nothing too serious and you are in a rush,I will say just stick with the movie.

If I really have a choice I would prefer book over movies. I am someone who indulges in whatever she reads, it gives intense emotions and deeper understanding, a movie is not likely to do this. Plus, the details of the scenes provided in the book are not likely to be portrayed in a movie. Even if the director does his best to portray the details, there is no guarntee that the viewer would pay attention to everything, while in case of the book, the reader goes through everything and that's why gets the deeper effect.

Another thing is that if you read the book first and watch movie later you would be disappointed, but if you do the vice verse you won't regret.

Yeah all these points you listed are what makes book better. With movies, you can multi task which can cause distractions and make you lose focus.

Thanks for stopping by.
Really appreciate

Pleasure is always mine

I think I prefer movies over books probably because I get bored flipping through the pages of some books. I have heard my friends argue the fact that Books provide much more details about what is been shown in the movies.

But I would stick with movies

Movies also bore people. As for me, I can settle for both. But for class projects, I’d prefer books.

Thanks for stopping by boss
