I was doing some reading today about US constitutional silver, checking things to buy, prices etc etc and came across something really interesting that blew my mind.
Ever wondered what's the most expensive U.S coin?
The answer is the The Flowing Hair dollar, which also was the first dollar coin to be issued by the United States federal government.
Here's how it looks like
Not much of a beauty if you ask me but I guess you have to start from somewhere 😂 Poor ol lady liberty looks more like those weight lifting trans athletes with that chunky neck and chin. 😂 And that eagle hasn't had a proper meal for a while 😅
Only 1,758 pieces where minted back in 1794 so as expected this is a pretty rare find these days, especially in good quality.
To give you an idea, the finest specimen known as of today was sold in 2013 at auction for wife changing money. Ten fucking million dollars..Well $10,016,875 to be more exact, which is the highest selling point for any coin ever. Before that, the same piece was sold for 8 millions.
It is estimated that today only 120-130 flowing hair dollars exist, so they are quite expensive regardless of quality.
So yeah, 10 millions for 26.96 g of 0.900 silver. Not bad. Not bad at all 😂
Definitely not a coin for the collection of a pleb like me. I'll just stick with the regular silver coins I get from Facebook market 😅
Feel free to visit wikipedia if my post peaked your curiosity and you want to learn more about this piece!
