I live a small self contained apartment with my elder brother in Port Harcourt. Through out last year I was serving in Akwaibom state.
One fateful morning, I got a call from my brother that he has gotten a job abroad and he was to travel the next week. I was happy and sad at the same time. I was happy because I have the opportunity to be free and independent as well as live my life in a way that pleases me, then I was sad because I have to do everything on my own now, pay the bills and take care of myself. I saw it as I means of growth, so I accepted it wholeheartedly.
On 3rd of November 2023, I did my passing out parade then returned to Port Harcourt on 5th of November.
I decided to spend little time with my parents before I returned to living the independent life in Port Harcourt.
On December 2nd 2022, I returned back to Port Harcourt in search of a job, getting a job was actually more difficult than I thought but that would be a story for another day.
So when I got to my brother’s apartment which now belongs to me, I noticed there was no light in the house. So I called the landlord and asked why there was no light in my house, he responded that my brother refused to pay for Nepa bill and he cut off his power supply, he also told me that it’s almost getting to a year he did that. So I pleaded with him to reconnect my light so I can be paying for the light. He then told me that before he’d connect the light, I’d have to pay him Nepa bill for the period of one year that we didn’t use light. So I disagreed and we had some exchange of words then I decided to forget about the light, then I traveled for Christmas.
I returned from Christmas holiday on January 9th, God blessed me with a job, so I started staying in the house permanently.
Fast forward to February 2nd, on the day my house was supposed to expire, my landlord called and asked if I was aware my house was expiring on that day, I told him yes, he asked what my plans are for the renewing of the house, so I told him that my brother would get in touch with him since he was the one that rented the apartment, he agreed and left.
The next morning which was 3rd February, at about 6am I heard a knock on my door, behold it was my landlord again.
He said he wants to talk to me about something, I pleaded for him to wait till I returned from work, he refused.
So while he stood at my door, I asked him to talk. He stated to me that he wants to have access to the house I live in, that I should him the house keys because he has some other people that wants to rent house. I told him I can’t do such because I have important properties inside the house, he tried to drag the keys from my hand, I refused. He pushed me back to into the house and beat me mercilessly and threw my stuffs outside.
I called my family and we reported to the police, before we did all the writing of statements procedure and came for arrest, he already flee and is yet to return till date. The police are still after him, I also involved a lawyer and they’ve promised to make him pay legally for assaulting me.
