I had a teacher who was a lover of students. We loved him so much because he was someone who loved us also. We could express our minds before him fearlessly. When other teachers looked at us as humans that are not qualified to come near them, this our teacher was our friend. He had sympathy for us students. He regularly fears criticism from other teachers. They told him several times that we will bring him bad fortune. But their evil wish never happened. None of us students gave problems to our beloved uncle. In fact, our parents were pleased with the ways Uncle T loved us and related with us lovingly.
Uncle T was our Mathematics and Physics teacher. He was gifted with the talent of teaching such that I have never seen a teacher who could explain Mathematics and Physics the way Uncle T did. His method of teaching encouraged many of us to join the science department. He made the lessons so simple in the way he explained the subjects. He simplified it and made it looked as if Mathematics and Physics were simpler than we used to think.
Not as if Mathematics and Physics were that simple. In fact, we have always been afraid of Mathematics and Physics as very difficult subjects. By my own evaluation, they were the most difficult subjects in the school curriculum. The problem of failing Mathematics in certificate examinations was a predominant problem to some of our children. A lot of people have been repeating the examinations like West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) several times because of Mathematics and Physics.
We could not understand why these subject were simple for Uncle T to understand. He taught those subjects as if they were that simple. With the way he taught those subjects, he helped those students who failed them previously to make their papers and gain admissions. Uncle T was a blessing to us in our secondary school days. Uncle T was a real blessing to the educational system.
This teacher was such a balanced teacher. You would think that with the way he freely related with students, he would indulge their indiscipline. I tell you, no other teacher could discipline in the whole school like Uncle T. Uncle could blend accepting and loving students with discipline effectively. He was such a talented teacher and we loved him so much.
