Hello guys and happy weekend from this part of the world.
So i would love to take on this topic because i have alot of reasons why i object to parents choosing career for their kids.
We all know that currently in 80%-90% of homes right now that most parents chooses a profession for there children, maybe one of there neighbours kids wants to be a Surgeon or an Engineer then they also wants their child to study such profession just for the competition or the money or respect that comes from such professions.
Now they don't consider the ability of the child or even care whether the child in particular wishes to even go to school or he wishes to be skilled or go into business, now they finally succeed in pushing such child in the field they have in mind.
Getting to the university and the child isn't able to perform, maybe he get influenced by negative attitude of joining gangs or even start smoking and end up messing himself up with drugs and all or not getting up with the grades and everything required to be in that field, probably the university chooses to thin them down and push those with low grades to other departments thereby crushing the dream of such a kid to be a doctor or Engineer . Or let's say eventually the kid finishes with no knowledge of how the outside world works because all professions requires you to be good in both theory and practical.Imagine such a person who never attended practicals or missed some performing a surgery on someone, what would be the outcome of such section? Or being high on drugs, stepping into the theatre to gamble with someone's life.
PERSONAL OPINION
- Kids should be given the ground to speak on what they want and wish to be (Not wayward though) in the future, and then be monitored closely how well they perform academically and practically that would determine what such kid is capable of and the profession they should choose.
Kids opinion matters not just parents or guidance.
This has been a major problem here in Africa, most people are studying thr courses their parents choose for them in the universities, now most end up dropping out after wasting reasonable years.
Most people whom might have finished find it hard to secure a job in such particular field they studied, the government is not helping in any way. Imagine the academic staff union of universities (ASUU) in Nigeria has been on strike closing to 5 months now, because of unpayed salaries and agreement reached since 2009 which has not been responded to till date. Money equivalence is about 17Billion Naira ( USD8.5m ).
It's really a shame that even the government doesn't care about the education sector, they are all corrupt and all they think of is embezzlement of public funds and sending their family outside the country 🤦🏻♂️.
Anyways i rest my case
Have a great day and happy weekend
