The weekly splinterland battle mage challenge is finally here and we had one amazing ruleset for the week theme which is the Lost Magic which means no touch of magic monster cards will be allow in battle. This kind of battle is always interesting and tricky too because there are lot of anti/counter cards to use in this kind of battle and it is always scary and annoying at times. Since we are left with only melee and range cards, as a beginner, you need to know that some abilities will really favour what strategy you might be using, you can make use of inspire to increase your melee cards strength, protect to add extra armour to your cards since melee and range destroy armour first before touching cards health, opportunities to allow your melee attack from any position and also sneak ability is very important to use.
While there are buffing abilities to help in your strategy, there are anti abilities which can give you upper hands in the battle if played well, the anti melee abilities are Thorn which dealt damage back to any melee attacker, Demoralize which reduce melee strength and shield which reduce damage received from both melee and range cards. you can make use of headwinds to reduce range strength and return fire to return damage back to range attackers. Let take a look at this battle I had with Culin, we had 37 mana capped with 2 ruleset which was target practice which give all range cards in this case the snipe ability and the main ruleset lost magic and we could pick any element except fire, since I play Modern rank now, I don't really have a suitable summoner to use so I pick my soul based conscript summoner in water which is currently in lvl 7.

After thinking on what to picked, I choose Diemonshark with the trample, enrage and retaliate ability, supported it with Flying Squid with the reach and blind ability. I picked Deeplurker and Isgald vorst as my opportunity cards and placed Pelacor bandit in between them as the sneaky card and as my backline I used Xenith Archer since I have no melee cards left to use for my only melee attacking strategy. Submitting my formation and seeing what this opponent brought on board, came up with life element 3v3 squad with blast and martyr, somehow I thought he actually had a big chance but weak when it come to health and less armour which means my opportunist can easily target and destroy them.
The battle wasn't that easy since I didn't use headwind and his range card get stronger which dealt more damage, his drybone barbarian was dangerous too and at the end I was able to defeat him with just 2 of my cards managing to survive. it was a free and fair fight. What do you do in this kind of situation?
