Happy new week creative friends and welcome to my mend
ding challenge where i feature a hand-sew process to adjusting my dress at home.. and yes i thoughts to go to a tailors shop for this mending but since it was indeed a small adjustment or at least i would like to think i t was i decided to get it done myself putting to good use my hand sewing skills which i have had since i was a child.. i was the eight year old who had learned to use a needle much earlier on a skill i had watched my mum use to mend things around the house.
So here we go
Here is upclose look of the dress, it is of ankara material and traditional print with puff as the major design style as you would notic with the sleeve and hem of the dress.
I also wanted to show you an upclose look of the parts of the dress that needed mending, i had use a razor blad to tear ope the part that ristricted my comfort when i put on the dress, it was the side of the dress and the zipper area which needed a little more allowance from where the zip start, i cut off where it had been stopped with machine sew to start from a further lenght from where the snitch to the waist of the dress was.
Materials Needed
single needle
thread
timble
measuring tape
Step By Step Process
Step 1
starting off with threading the needle, i am using a yellow thread which matches the colour of the dress for seemless blend. i began to sew after the allowance the has been created when the dress was initallly made. this would allow me more space in the bust area that was ristrictive
Step 2
in this step i had sown the area that joined the top of the dress to the skirt piece because while i cut it open i had made a cut to this part, after that i sew up the side upward leaving me a1 inche space extra to the bust.
Step 3
In this step i am adjusting the zipper area, like i had mentioned earlier, i cut open the spot where a stop had been made to the start of the zip up, i decided to start the stop to the zipper even further down so i could have more space opening while i put on the dress.
This was the final look after sowing my dress hand-mend style, it appeared neat if you ask me and i was really stastified with the result and then went ahead to press the dress so that it relax
Final Look!
