Prelude
Hi all, hope all is well for you and it is time for another Battle Mage Secrets. Last week, we looked a ruleset which made the summoners effect non existent and need to trust in the abilities of the cards itself. Today, we look at a ruleset which will boost the impact of cards with a certain ability.
Ruleset Spotlight
Stampede
Description:
- Trample will retrigger infinitely as long as the trampling unit keeps killing other units.
What thrives with this ruleset?
This ruleset essentially is designed for Possibilus The Wise from Water Splinter. Possibilus will give every single card in the lineup trample ability. And in Stampede ruleset, a full trample lineup can essentially keep attacking until it fail to kill a card. And that's if you have a copy of Possibilus. Otherwise, you will be like me and many others, trying to figure out how to take advantage of this ruleset.
Trample tends to come at much higher levelled cards. For low level there will be Diemonshark and Desert Dragon, otherwise all will be seen at higher levels and majority of cards that have Trample also exist in the wild format. And in usual context, proper setting up is needed to ensure a good run in Trampling. We also do not want to deliberately setup trample but neglect the rest of the lineup.
When we are unable to capitalize it, why not consider defending against it. If possible use high health cards to prevent an easy chew by trampling cards and consider using thorns so that they get hurt as they chew rather than going scott free and bully our lineup. Some protection can also be helpful in the form of Protect and Shield to break up their momentum.
Statline wise, the higher the better for every stat.
With these in mind, let's start to talk about the battle proper.

Ruleset
Super Sneak, Stampede
Mana Limit: 29
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Helios Matriarch | 6 | Summoner | This summoner card gives +1 speed and allows the use of 1 Gladius card which I will need in this match. |
Venari Marksrat | 3 | 1st | The one to sacrifice. Reason being that it is important for us to boost up my intended card's stat and hence this is critical. |
Quora Towershead | 10 | 2nd | The main damage dealer for the lineup whom needs no further introduction. Double attack form and also healing with Blood Lust, one of the best card in the game. |
Fungus Fiend | 0 | 3rd | Just another shield that can attack while hiding in the middle of the lineup |
Vruz | 2 | 4th | Fast attacking sneaker that only need a small mana to use |
Djinn Chwala | 8 | 5th | The thorny one which will make everyone that strikes it to pay their taxes and feel its wrath. |
Total Mana: | 29 |
Opponent Lineup
- Summoner - Lobb Lowland
- Position 1 - Hill Giant
- Position 2 - Fungus Flinger
- Position 3 - Quora Towershead
- Position 4 - Venari Marksrat
- Position 5 - Xenith Monk
- Position 6 - NA
Prediction before pressing rumble
Interesting lineup selection between me and my opponent. Main focus using Quora is the same, both of us also loaded up some Martyr to boost Quora statline but the rest of the make up is rather different.
I planned for Djinn Chwala to chew up anyone that tries to come from behind while allowing Quora to do her thing from the front. Opponent opted for a more balanced lineup with more health at both front and backline of his lineup.
Which one works better, there can only be one way to find out.
Let's battle!
Battle Synopsis
Round 1, A great opening round with some action. Some attacks from my lineup and also the thorns helped to thin down Xenith Monk's health and get it killed by Djinn Chwala in this round. One less pain to handle as we continue into the next round. Marksrat also fell this round to boost up Quora's stats.
Round 2, Another round that is packed with action. My side managed to clear the Marksrat and now it is an evenly matched Quora match up. The next round likely to see my Quora further grow with a dangerously low health Hill Giant waiting to be killed off.
Round 3, Hill Giant and Fungus Flinger was cleared this round. It will now be Quora facing Quora but I still have a backline in support to further wind her down. Key for me is not to let my own Quora fall.
Round 4 and 5, this was just a beatdown onto Quora. My own Quora survived the big slap from opponent Quora and we continued the attacks and took out opponent's Quora to secure the win. Glad to have win the match.
Post Battle Summary
Whew, 2 lineup with Quoras but very different outcome. With the thorns at the back, it really allowed me to come up on top as the cards will self destruct on it.
Did my strategy work? Yes it really did and allow me the needed advantage. While we did not truly witness any form of stampede, but in the event if there are, Djinn Chwala will be there to handle it and let them hurt themselves in the midst of it. Otherwise, the boosted Quora using martyr is also one formidable force not to belittle as it can grow bigger and bigger till you have no idea how to handle it.
What's the Battle Mage Secret?
Today's Battle Mage Secret is more on the defence portion where I deployed a card with thorns to handle anyone that is coming from the back. And that is something that can happen be it with a sneak or not, when handling stampede, you will need some form of stop mechanism. Cards such as Djinn Chwala or any others can serve as a stop mechanism where you will prevent further rolling down of cards due to trample. And hence, when facing stampede, do be ready to set up some spikes to get some advantage by letting them take back what they wanted to raid for.
