This weekend we celebrated St. Nicholas Day with friends.
The holiday is celebrated on December 6, but since it fell on Friday, we started celebrating from Friday, including the weekend.
We had two people named Nikolay.
We celebrated outside the big city - we traveled to the Topolitsa region in Southeast Bulgaria and stayed at the Byala Reka hut, which has a fishpond and quite interesting nature around it.
And now in autumn - nature is uniquely beautiful in its warm orange-yellow colors.
Traditionally, fish and fish dishes are prepared for the holiday, and there is almost always a carp dish on the table.
The two Nikolaev residents had prepared carp and were very keen to prepare it on the spot so that most guests could take a carp scale. It is believed that if you put a scale from the St. Nicholas Day carp in your wallet, your wallet will be full all year long.
In addition to people named Nikolay, Nikola, Nikolina, Nina, bankers also celebrate on this day.
Many dishes were prepared throughout the day, including grilled chernokop, banitsa, and many salads.
There was also a salty cake that was made with fish. It was made with pancakes, caviar, crab rolls, several types of fish, olives, pickles, red onions, corn and more.
There were also uniquely delicious homemade candies made with coconut.
We walked around. We have been here before, but now there are new improvements, not only in the hut but also outside.
There are new wooden tables, benches and gazebos, an improved playground.
Here, the fishpond, where trout is bred, still functions as before.
Here is also the old fountain built in 1973 by people from the nearby village of Zaichar.
We had a wonderful weekend with our friends.
