In our garden this year we have a lot of Apple Mint. A wonderful useful plant and herb with a strong aroma that attracts many bees and other insects.

I dried a part of it for tea. But I decided, with the other part of mint, to make homemade mint syrup as well.

Here's how I did it:

I picked and washed the mint. I separated its leaves and flowers from the stems.

I sprinkled them with a packet of citric acid.

I filled them with water (1 liter) and put the container in the refrigerator to stand for 24 hours.

After 24 hours I took them out of the fridge, strained the liquid and added 1 kg. sugar.

I stirred until the sugar dissolved. I poured into bottles and sterilized.

We dilute the finished syrup to taste with water and it is really very tasty and extremely refreshing. My family likes it very much.

The amount of ingredients is as follows:

  • mint - 100 g fresh leaves
  • sugar - 1 kg
  • water - 1 liter
  • citric acid - 10 g

Some people also add food coloring for color (on the tip of the knife), but I don't.

I read the recipe from this site.
