Hive Open Mic Week #160 // Blest be the tie that binds (Fraternity)
Hello famz! How’re y’all doing? I guess you guys are rockin' and that’s super cool. It’s your boy vic2ryx and you are all welcome to hive open mic week 160. The theme for this week is termed “Fraternity.” Listen, guys, when I saw the theme I was like woahhh!!!.
The reason for that exclamation is the fact that, in Nigeria, to be precise, the term fraternity has some negative connotation or vibe to it. It is like a boogey, cultish stuff..Lolz…You get what I’m saying, right? But fraternity doesn’t need to have such a negative vibe... It also has a positive spin to it.
Fraternity can also mean a group of people with shared goals, interests, and visions. People who are fighting for a common course...So, in this sense, we can say that the Hive open mic community is a fraternity..We all here share our music, our sound, our voice with each other cuz that’s what we do. We are united for one cause.
In view of the theme, I’ll be performing a short hymnal titled “Blest be the tie that binds.” It is a Christian hymnal that talks about the bond we share as a Christian family..This song is often rendered before the closing prayer, reminding everyone that we have a common interest. There’s a tie that binds us and whatever that connection may be, it is blessed.
Song Lyrics
Verse 1:
Blest be the tie that binds,
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds,
Is like to that above.
Verse 2:
Before our father’s throne,
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
Our comforts, and our cares
Verse 3:
We share our mutual woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for, each other flows
The sympathizing tear.
Verse 4:
When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still, be joined in heart
And hope to meet again...
