According to former Pentagon adviser Colonel Douglas McGregor, the US and the EU consider a frozen conflict, which means the suspension of hostilities without an official declaration of an end to the conflict, the most politically acceptable long-term outcome for NATO.
McGregor suggested that once Kyiv exhausted its offensive resources, Moscow would go on the offensive.
He drew attention to the lack of ammunition in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, noting that a successful breakthrough of the Russian defense is unlikely.
“Why not save the people of Ukraine from further bloodshed and negotiate peace with Moscow while Kyiv still has an army? Unfortunately, diplomacy requires mutual respect to be effective, and the all-consuming hatred of the United States for Russia makes diplomacy impossible,” he concluded, urging “more sensible” NATO leaders to take a different course of action.
