Young American Sebastian Korda impresses at the Australian Open 2023 defeating Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling match.
Playing solidly from the first point, Korda broke Medvedev's serve early in the first set and constantly pressured the former world number one's return. The American eventually took the first set in a tiebreak and won the next two sets to seal a three-set victory.
Korda's victory saw the 22-year-old move up to No. 28 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings and will now likely set a new career high after the Australian Open. On the other hand, the defeat meant Medvedev would drop out of the Top 10 for the first time since July 2019.
Korda will now face No. 10 Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round in search of a spot in the last eight of the Australian Open, while Medvedev will wonder what might have been.
