Hello friends, two very good topics @galenkp proposes us this week, this time I will be talking about my job and what I don't like about working on Saturdays.
To put you a bit in context, I am an English teacher and I work at a university. I teach classes to second year students Mondays through Fridays, but I also have to work on Saturdays, as the university offers a course for people who work on week days and can't attend university on those days, and I teach there as well.
The only good thing about this is that classes are not every Saturday, because there are not enough classrooms for so many students due to the bad conditions that the university was left in after Hurricane Ian and even a year after this event we are still dealing with the consequences. For this reason, classes are every other Saturday.
The truth is that I don't like working on Saturdays at all, I feel like they take away half of my weekend, which is my time to rest and relax. Normally I get up early every day to go to work, but getting up early on a Saturday is different, since that day no one gets up early at home and when I leave I am very envious to see my husband sleeping peacefully in bed, but I always find the strength to not be late, because I do not like unpunctuality.
On Saturday mornings the city feels quieter than usual, because clearly all the children and teenagers that I usually see rushing to get to school early, must be sleeping at that time and their mothers can rest too. At least I enjoy the fresh air in the morning and the beauty of the sky when the sun is about to rise.
Arriving at the university also feels quieter, as all the scholarship students have gone home and there are not as many students as in the regular course. The hallways look so empty, but I enjoy that calm, it reminds me that it is Saturday and when I finish my class I can go home and enjoy my free time as I wish.
The Foreign Language department, to which I belong, is on the fourth floor. There I greet everyone and go to my classroom to wait for my students, as I always arrive first.
Anyway, I am very happy on Saturdays when I can stay at home and sleep late. I don't like having to work on the weekend at all, I have enough on weekdays, but it's something I have to do to support my department and when I start the class I forget about everything and try to do my best for my students.
Coincidentally this topic came on the Saturday that I do have to work, so I definitely had to give my opinion 😅.
Enjoy your weekend friends 👋
