Ha Ha Ha Happy #NinetiesFriday

Yes I am late and yes it's still Friday so F it

Okay, I have been making it all sound so freaking wonderful.

I have been pretending that the Nineties were all that. But you all know that was not true!

And I have the tunes to prove it.

It all started with me remembering this one in my ThreeTunesTuesday Riddle

I remembered, damn that song lasted a long time at the number one position back then....

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=ofA3URC1wyk

That thought triggered this very painful post.

Sorry!

I am gonna expose us all, all those so-called #90SKids for what they really were.

A bunch of bad-taste bullies, trying to make the #80sCruizzers and the #00sFlakes feel like they missed out on the best era ever.

I am going to call out the one thing we should all be ashamed of.

The Biggest Number One Hits From The Nineties.

1. "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" – Bryan Adams

Held the top spot for 16 consecutive weeks on the UK Singles Chart in 1991, setting a record in the UK and performing strongly internationally

My Opinion:
I will be giving my opinion about each song and you do not have to agree with me because this is all about taste and that is more sacred and personal than anything else.

Okay, so, this was no Summer of 69 but it definitely did not suck as much as most songs in this top 10.

2. "I Will Always Love You" – Whitney Houston

Dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks in 1992-1993, powered by its association with The Bodyguard film

My Opinion:
To keep it decent, this was the period I just stopped listening to music on radio and TV. I am sorry, Google it because I refuse to play this poo.

3. "I'll Make Love to You" – Boyz II Men

Stayed at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks in 1994, becoming a global success

My Opinion:
I just turned the radio on again after the Bodyguard debacle and then this happened, so I turned it off again.

4. "Candle in the Wind 1997" / "Something About the Way You Look Tonight" – Elton John

A tribute to Princess Diana, this track topped charts for 14 weeks globally and became one of the best-selling singles of all time

My Opinion:
If you want a slow song by Elton, I prefer Nikita and many others. But after piles of trash on the #1 position at least I could leave the radio playing.

5. "The Boy Is Mine" – Brandy & Monica

Spent 13 weeks at number one in 1998, showcasing widespread appeal
My Opinion:
TLC rip-off or top-off this is how 90s R&B sounds in my brain!

6. "Macarena" (Bayside Boys Mix) – Los del RΓo

Dominated charts worldwide, including a 14-week run on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1996, symbolizing the decade's cultural moments
My Opinion:

These are no real #90sKid. Because a real '90s kid would have loved what this song is about. Other than that, I prefer Las Ketchup.

7. Snap! – "Rhythm Is a Dancer" (1992)

This Eurodance hit reached #1 in multiple European countries and stayed dominant for weeks.

My Opinion:

Okay, now this is my 90s. Late 80s they had the power and this is what my brain hears if I think of 90s dance.
Is it any good, nahhh only as a memory

8. "Believe" – Cher

This dance anthem stayed atop various charts globally for weeks in 1998-1999, driven by its innovative use of autotune.

My Opinion:
Don't call it a comeback, I call it auto-tune avant la lettre but yes the lady did it again. Although I prefer her with Beavis and Butthead.

I mean this song would have been so top 10 of the nineties right?

9. Ace of Base – "All That She Wants" (1993)

With its unique pop-reggae sound, this song topped charts across Europe, including 8+ weeks in some regions.

My Opinion:

Call me a Europe Snob, but this '90s ABBA thingy is my favorite on this list. It's 90s, it has a hook, a great intro, and a sound that will always be AOB

10. "My Heart Will Go On" – Celine Dion

The iconic ballad from Titanic reached number one in many countries and stayed there for weeks in 1998, cementing its legacy.

The reason I never watched the movie was because of this song, just like I never watched The Bodyguard due to that sickening song. Don't get me wrong I like Celine, even in the 90s but only in French.

I mean compare that boatwreck with this song???

And yes that was the Western world and that was proof of a terrible taste.
But I am a Dutch 90s kid so did the Dutch do it any better?

Dutch Do It Better

Spoiler Alert, yes they did a little better just the #2 & #5 but better is better!

1. Bryan Adams – "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" (1991)

This iconic ballad spent 11 weeks at number one in the Dutch Top 40.

2. DJ Paul Elstak – "Rainbow in the Sky" (1995)

This happy hardcore anthem had significant chart success.

If you did not know, the Dutch invented hardcore for one reason only white farmers can't dance! (Oh and the Dutch truly sound like that intro)

3. No Mercy – "Where Do You Go" (1996)

A popular track with extended dominance in the charts.

The epiphany of a nothing song came when this sith reached #1

4. Whitney Houston – "I Will Always Love You" (1992/1993)

No vomit ehhh comment
untitled.gif

5. Marco Borsato – "Dromen Zijn Bedrog" (1994)

The Dutch-language hit stayed at number one for 12 weeks.

This guy might be the Dutch MJ, we are still in doubt but at least he is alive. He was the Dutch hitmachine, till he got canceled.

I can't help smiling when I hear this intro.... too many memories and most of them drunk!

#NinetiesFriday was brought to you by My 90s Rant

WTF do I do on #NinetiesFriday?
Well, don't do what I do because that would be copy/pasta!

But some ideas are music, movies, television, sports, or really anything Nineties related.

I assume movie, TV, or music topic reviews or talk will be most common, but you could also talk about a sports memory or something else.

Think the Pop Culture of the times, but it would be great to hear about little known and interesting bands or entertainment items. Don’t forget to use tag #NinetiesFriday

@geneeverett will give 3 basic income units to a winning random post every week that uses the #NinetiesFriday tag. Also @thebighigg has jumped in to match for 6 total weekly prizes! If anyone else wants to sponsor with 1 unit let me know or just send it if you don’t wanna commit to weekly πŸ‘

You've got a njce collection of good songs here.
Everything i do by Brian Adams and my heart will go on are two good songs i must have played a million times but the music video of my heart will go on is very emotional and when I later watched the movie titanic i almost cried remembering the song.

Thanks they were the biggest bangers of the nineties for sure πŸ˜ƒ

Talk about attack of the corny ballads! 🀣

Although I gotta admit as a kid I owned that Ace Of Base cd πŸ’Ώ 🀣

Hey you have taste it's my fav song of the Terrible ten! !PIMP

And yes I guess this post could not be handled by my sober mind hence me being late

Oh god I remember those 14 weeks of hell with Bryan Adams on the top of the charts... it wouldn't even disappear after that so quickly either! I agree with Boyz II Men and Cher. Another 2 top of my annoying list!! I didn't mind Brandy too much, wasn't that a 1 hit wonder? She had Jerry Springer in her video.

LOL do I deduce that Withney was not too bad in your past, Brandy did a lot in the US if I am not mistaken but but for it was TLC above Brandy..... I gotta check that Jerry Springer ref! !PIMP

Oh no, i cant stand Witney.. oh god no! LOL

untitled.gif

I remember this and how much it was played on MTV. Non stop and it was number 1 on TRL longer then the Back Street Boys 🀣

This song...... well it still beats Whitney

I know I don't have to, but if I had to choose, I'd go for Ace Of Base, half reggae disco-pop, with a melody that goes fast in the ears.
!INDEED

100% with you on that one, it just has a certain ....or should I say a little quality to it thanks for dropping by !PIMP

Hey bud. Do me a favor for next week. Me and @thebighigg decided since it really hasn’t brought anyone new into it we are going to end the prize of HSBI. I’m going to still promote and do nineties Friday weekly! It’s not going anywhere! Just the prize element hasn’t been helpful at all. But I’ll definitely be supporting people posting and likely giving prizes once in a while. We just aren’t gonna do the weekly thing .
Since only u and me posted , you officially win for the last week!

I’m giving u a bonus 10 for 13 total! I hope u will continue being here every Friday! I sure will be! Enjoy the bonus 10 HSBI! Just a thank u for being here and a I hope u keep posting!!
