Hello dear Hivers.

According to google, coping mechanism refers to any conscious or non conscious adjustment, adaptation that decreases tension and anxiety in a stressful experience or situation.

In layman’s term, it is simply any strategy or activity one uses to reduce stress.

As for me, my coping mechanism has to be watching cartoons. Call me immature or silly but I can not not watch cartoons lol .
Everything about animations just reduces my stress level from a hundred to zero.

Maybe it’s how much they exaggerate
some scenes or how cartoon characters are literally immortal I don’t know but it definitely gets the job done.

Thanks to Cartoon Network which first introduced me to the world of animation, at least so far as I can remember.
My siblings and I grew up watching CN shows such as Ben 10, power puff girls, Courage the cowardly dog, Ed Edd n Eddy, Dexter’s lab, Scooby doo, Johnny bravo, Tom and Jerry, Samurai jack, and the list goes on. Seeing these cartoons in today’s world, some people cringe at it but to me this made my childhood. In fact this was what my childhood was all about.

Kids my age bonded by this, after a long and stressful day at school I always looked forward to coming back home to watch my cartoons and they never fail in comforting me. Life was easy.

Growing up I have always been surrounded by cartoons. As a younger teenage girl-

-Barbie was my hero.

I grew up watching Barbie and all the series; eg Barbie life in a dream house, Barbie as Princess and the Pauper, Barbie in fairytopia, Barbie and the nutcracker, Barbie Rapunzel and so much more.

I fell in love with Barbie, to the extent I remember saving enough money to purchase the DVDs. I would sometimes starve myself in school to save the money or keep some change my Mum gives to me just to afford Barbie discs.
Till date I still remember some songs Barbie sang in most of the series hahaha.
Typing this just hit me with massive nostalgia. Golden years indeed.

Fast forward to recent times. I still enjoy cartoons a lot and it relieves me in a way.
There was a time I literally challenge myself to do a marathon by watching almost all the cartoons of 2020 and some that were released pre 2020. Immediately I finished one, I commenced another. From The Croods to Soul to The Willoughbys to Peter rabbit to Hotel Transylvania to Storks and many more. I was inwardly bragging about how I have watched almost all the cartoon movies to ever exist in 2020. What a weird flex hahaha.

I got tired of waiting for a new cartoon movie to come out and soon I ran out of options to choose from.
Till I found Family guy. I immediately fell in love with that show, all I can say is I have watched all the seasons and episodes of Family guy more than two times. It has over 19 episodes I saw them all repeatedly. It’s about a family of five (Mother and Father inclusive).

It is a cartoon sitcom basically displaying how an irresponsible Father;

Peter Griffin makes bizarre and displeasing decisions which later affects his family. Although at the end of every episodes, sometimes he fixes the aftermath of his decisions sometimes he doesn’t but they always have a happy ending. Oh and everybody hates Meg. (You’ll get it if you’re a fan)

After finishing this show, I immediately found another cartoon sitcom to obsess over. American dad.

Very similar to Family guy but the difference is instead of having normal pets, they have a talking fish and an alien - Roger. I love this series so much that I also have seen every episode of every season repeatedly.

Netflix is also a supplier of cartoons to me. I have seen almost all the cartoons or cartoon shows on Netflix (of course the asides kiddies ones). Okay just one exception because I watched Boss baby 😩. No judgment please haha.

Moreover, in as much as I love animations, I am a critic for some types. For example; Anime. I really really dislike anime and no hate to the anime cult lovers out there reading this but it is a no for me.

Well I guess the essence of this post is to share my “unusual” side. I am sure there are a lot of adults out there who also enjoys watching cartoons and animations. I can not be in this alone, or can I?

Oh, you’re not! I’m a lover of cartoons too. Like you said, I cannot not watch cartoons. It’s like comfort food. I still even try to keep up with the Barbie movies and series now. And I say this with no shame. I just enjoy it. So, 🥂cheers to us cartoon watchers and lovers!
