Wanna be active but don't want to go out?
Wanna be fit but don't wanna spend more?
Wanna be Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao but don't wanna spend money for the boxing gym?
Maybe Fit Boxing 2 is perfect for you.
Reasons and Excuses
I started playing Fit Boxing 2 because I was looking for an alternative way to not sign up for a gym, or a boxing gym. Actually I signed up for a gym before but well, I wasn't religiously going because well, procrastination it's not my cup of tea. I wanted to join a boxing training but living in Tokyo, you can imagine the prices are way too high for a monthly service and it's not even yet a hobby.
I wanted to get actively moving. I want to get fit. Sitting all day won't get me anywhere.
So I invested in Nintendo Switch and bought this game.
Game Highlights
The game will teach you the basic stance and the different kinds of punches. There's a trainer that will teach you the right form.
Since this is Fit Boxing 2: Rhythm and Exercise, expect that every session you will be grooving to the music. Not really dancing, more like putting your weight front and back while throwing punches. There aren't a lot of songs and I don't think you can change the music for a session. The background will also change depending on the type of music. In the above screenshots, the song was Katy Perry's Hot and Cold.
The tricky part is when you need to do combos. If you can't get the right timing on when to throw a punch, your rhythm will be off.
You gotta throw every punch like you have an enemy in front of you. That's how I play this game. If you're throwing the punch without any strength or weight or whatever it is called, most likely it will be detected by the game as a wrong kind of punch. So you gotta feel it. 😂
At first I was so conscious of my stepping, you know the front-back thing. Later on, I just don't care. Though I think I'm getting it right. Just that at first, since you're not used to it, the switching of the weight between front and back makes you uncomfortable while throwing punches.
Did I already mention that before you start and/or end the boxing sessions, there is an option to do stretching? I think this is very important so this is a plus for me.
Suggestion: More songs. It's okay if user can't choose from the list of songs, as long as there's a lot in the inventory. Since there's only less, I kept on grooving to the same music everyday.
Stats
Every after one boxing session, you'll see how well you did.
And in every game (meaning all the sessions for the day), there's a summary and even guessing your fitness age.
I thought I'm so good at jabs but turns out, I'm not. During the game, I believed I didn't miss any jab punch but the stats say otherwise. And oh, I need to work on my left uppercut. 😅
I have no complaints about this. The stats are really helpful on what I need to improve on.
Calendar and Reminders
There's a monthly calendar to see when you played the game. I won't be showing mine so you won't judge me. 😂 It's kinda nice to see it because I would always feel guilty seeing mine. 🤣
You can also set a daily alarm reminding you to start the game. Personally, I didn't set up mine so I'm not sure if the Switch will make a sound even when it's on sleep mode.
Trainers
There are a total of 10 instructors that you can choose from the game. You can also choose what kind of clothes they wear if you don't like their fashion sense. It's free to change instructors.
I don't think there's any difference with what the instructors teach. They are all saying the same thing. "Visualize the punch before you throw.", that's what they kept on saying whenever you have a session.
Suggestion: It would have been nice if each instructor teaches something unique. Right now, choosing an instructor is just a preference - whether you like to have a male or female instructor.
Gears
I have actually invested on a good controller grip. I think it's perfect for boxing. I got in Amazon for 699 yen or around 5 USD.
Conclusion
Like every other game, Fit Boxing 2 has its flaws and things to improve. But it's an overall great game if you wanna do boxing at home.
Though I still think going to a real boxing gym is a better option. Well, only if you're really committed to it. The fees are more expensive than buying a Switch and getting this game so make sure to stay committed once you start going to the boxing gym.
Boxing is good. It's a nice hobby. It helps me relive stress after a day's work. But after working at home, I don't really like to go out so for now, this game works for me.
How about you? What do you do at home to make you stay active?
